Guys & Girls: Sports and Greek School – If your high school was not a highly sociable crowd, get ready for a huge change at Penn State! The sorority, fraternity, and sports scene at PSU is tremendous, and the guys and girls reflect that very idea. There is a huge variety of guys and girls, but most share one trait - they are very outgoing, fun loving people!

Facilities: Campus Activities – Penn State offers a lot of things to do on campus from free movies, comedians, bands, and clubs from athletic to video gaming

Campus Housing: The dorms on campus are in very convenient locations. Accessing computer labs, food, etc. is very easy.

Health & Safety: Personal Safety – I feel very safe at Penn State but it isn't because of police or safety services. I tend to trust the people that attend the school but reastically, I don't feel that it would be very difficult for a crime to be committed on or off campus. I just don't think it happens often.

Overall Experience: An Awesome School – My thoughts are that Penn State is one of the greatest school to attend. Even though I am a World Campus Online student, I still reap the benefits of those at the school. All you have to do is do your school work and you will be successful with your grades.

Academics: Lots of Choices – I am a nutirition major, and i have lots of options to take that count toward my major.

Local Atmosphere: if you arent about fun and spirit, this isnt the place for you!

3 College Junior

Weather: Windy All the Time – there is wind every day, so remember to bring a coat even on a cool day outside

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: The campus has become more strict over the last couple years in response the the school's party fame. However, the fraternities are getting much cleaner and respectable.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: It is a majority white campus, but with a decent amount of African and Asian ethnicities.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: All of the computers are easy to use and universal throughout the campus. The printers work for all of them and are accessed through student accounts. The speed is very good even when everyone is on at the same time. They are convenient and make doing homework anywhere a possibility.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: Food is pretty simple here. We have fast food chains, Chinese restaurants and a few ethic restaurant. But all in all you can never go hungry here.

3 College Senior

Facilities: What Makes Us Special? Penn State has unique buildings, great social scenes, great parties, high academics, but most of all we have the largest stadium not only just in the US but in the whole continent of America. Now THAT's something.

5 College Senior

Transportation: Penn State has a fully-operational bus system called CATA(Center Area Transportation Authority). They have 4 free bus routes: Blue Loop, White Loop, Red Link and Green Link. These routes travel all around campus and the downtown area running every 5-10 minutes everyday until 2 am. There are also buses that travel to common destination such as Wal-Mart and Giant Supermarket and the Nittany Mall. The current fare is $1.25. There is also a bus station that has service to Philadelphia, Harrisburg and Pittsburgh. There are also buses that goes to New York City for relatively low prices. So there are ways for you to get around and get out.

Drug Safety: The main substance that plagues Penn State is alcohol. Many students here are heavy drinker and will continue to drink while they are down here. There's not so much as peer pressure than there is just availability. I believe students here began drinking long before they came into college. Underage drinking is a huge concern here. House parties are the main source of underage drinking.
Marijuana is also prevelant here at Penn State, though it's not as visible as alcohol. But Penn State has a strict policy on drinking and is on full alert on preventing underage drinking as well as DWI and other issues.

Transportation: convenient and mostly on schedule. buses are eco-friendly! campus buses run early morning to late night and are free.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Hard to Find Convenient Apartments – most apartments downtown are expensive and small. you would definitely need a roommate or two to cover the expenses. and as a top party school, parties are going on everyday of the week so expect your halls to be messy daily.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: Great Computer Labs – we have computer labs nearly every 6-8 buildings apart. macs and pcs with high speed printing and fast internet. labs may get crowded during finals but the wireless is extremely reliable.

4 College Junior

Nightlife: Always Something to Do – If you want to find someone to party with somewhere, there will always be another person ready to go and place to go to. Bars or clubs are super strict with being 21, but you don't really need them to go out. Frats are abundant and transportation is readily available.

5 College Junior

Athletics: Never a Dull Moment – Penn State clearly has one of the best athletic departments in the country. Fans are abundant and football game days are a can't miss.

1 College Junior

Diversity: White All Over – Although very accepting, the whole campus is white. If you guess that someone who isnt white is an athlete you're probably right.

Campus Strictness: RA Dependent – Although i personally don't think their punishments are that harsh, the more you get the worse off you are. Depending on your RA, you may be able to drink in your room or if you end up with a real stickler you could get screwed. My freshman year my RA was chill but different ones patrolled the halls depending on the day of the week. We always checked and made sure to be out of the dorm on the days a certain RA just happened to be on duty.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: After East, Its All Good – East halls is not the most roomy or nice place to live but the relationships formed there are forever. If you remain on campus after freshman year, which many do but a lot do not, the dorms get much nicer and more convenient.

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: Always Safe – I have never felt unsafe and have even frequently wandered around the campus at 4 a.m.or later. Blue lights on campus are abundant and State College was even named one of the safest cities. Many people i know don't even lock their doors and i personally never locked my dorm room door.

Despite common reservations about the location and climate, most Penn State students are fiercely loyal to their alma mater. Penn State boasts one of the largest alumni populations in the United States; graduates are proud of their degrees, and employers recognize the University’s name immediately. Although the campus is located in a very rural area, school is technologically up-to-date and on the cutting-edge of current research.

Aside from academics, PSU is also known for its social scene, especially in relation to sports and parties. Nittany Lion football—home of the 2008 Big Ten Champions—is a national draw and a point of pride for both the University and the town of State College. For anyone interested in playing or watching varsity sports, PSU is a top choice. Penn State has also been ranked highly by many polls and “party school” surveys as one of the top party schools in the nation. While it certainly isn’t the wildest town, these rankings are definitely accurate. The small-town setting and large-school atmosphere makes for little else in the way of entertainment, so it can be hard to avoid encountering the party scene during your time as a student. Still, the mix of work and leisure seems to work well for most of the student body, and academic standards at Penn State remain relatively high. It’s easy to spend four years at Penn State as an ever-serious student, focused completely on whatever you choose to study. With so many opportunities to relax nearby, balance and moderation are some of the best skills to learn from your four years in college.
