3 College Freshman

Facilities: I would rate higher, if the experience wasn't so bad for commuters. Commuters loose access to many resident related aspects of the campus, such as cheap on campus dining, mail services, entry to housing, etc.

5 College Freshman

Facilities: Penn State Behrend has a great athletics facility, as well as incredible programs for Engineers. If you're going into any technology/engineering related field, this is the place to be.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: D3 schools do not give athletic scholarships so you are on your own in sports.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: Beautiful research facility and labs. Free/nearly free concerts and shows.

4 College Student

Facilities: Student life on campus is really awesome, it could be a little better if more people were involved but it's still awesome. The facilities are wonderful and make you feel comfortable, wherever you are. The library is very relaxing and enables you to study and do homework in a quiet, relaxing environment. The athletic center has a wide variety of exercises and classes for students to participate in. The green area/nature on campus is beautiful. Many places where you could just take a blanket and sit outside. Very nice. A campus event I've noticed is the Hanging of the Greens that is taking place this Friday. Many people take part of it, along with THON which is another big tradition people participate in. The student life on campus is a lot of fun, there is always something to do.

Behrend does a pretty good job of keeping the facilities up-to-date and clean. The biggest complaint of most students is that the fitness center is too small. If you like the work out, try to go to the gym during off-peak hours, like before 9 a.m. or during dinnertime. But, besides the size of fitness center, the facilities are clean and in good condition. The library is always being updated, and it is large, clean, comfortable, and has a beautiful view. The REDC is a state-of-the-art $30 million building that was recently completed. It has nice computer labs, engineering labs, business classrooms, large lecture halls, and many other great features. The computer labs across campus have all recently been updated, and the new 24-hour cyber lounge is very nice. It has large-screen and double-monitor computers, couches, and big-screen TVs.

The Reed Union building had some recent renovations, and a new admissions and alumni building was recently built. The dorms are all well-kept, and most are much nicer than at other colleges. Overall, most of the facilities at Penn State Behrend are either perfectly sufficient or there are plans to fix them.

  • THON: This is very big Penn State tradition that the Behrend campus participates in. Students dance for 24 hours to raise money for childhood cancer.

  • People say that the Behrend family dog Dobbin still wanders the campus.
  • Some students think that the basement of Porcupine Hall is haunted.
Favorite Things To Do
Bruno's always has free weekend entertainment like bands and comedians, as well as $1 movies Wednesday through Saturday, and there are other free campus activities, like Midnight Bingo and Fiesta Night, that occur throughout the semester. The Junker Center brings in a big-name band or celebrity a few times a year; past performers and speakers have included The All-American Rejects, Jim Gaffigan, Third Eye Blind, Jerome Bettis, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton. Baseball and basketball games are also fun to attend. When the weather is nice, students will walk through the woods to the gorge where they build fires, drink, and often spend the night.
