Most students at Behrend agree that the computer network and labs on campus are great. In 2008, Behrend opened a 24-hour cyber lounge in the science building that features new computers with large-screen monitors, several computers with double monitors, and large-screen TVs that can be hooked up to laptops or watched by everyone. The cyber lounge also features study areas and chairs and couches. There is also a new computer lab with regular computers attached to the cyber lounge for overflow. For business and engineering majors, the REDC has many new computer labs that are open 24 hours (ID card access), and the library also has a computer lab for general use. There are classes in certain labs on weekday mornings, which can make it slightly more difficult to find an open computer, but it is not usually a big problem. It’s recommended that new students bring their own computer simply for convenience, but it would be possible to get by with only the lab computers.
Another perk here is that students get unlimited free printing. The best time to find the most open computers is right before the classes for that particular hour end. If you do bring your own computer, one thing to keep in mind is that you must have virus protection (provided free from the school) or the University will void the unprotected computers from the network.
