Majors: The math department here sucks and holds everyone back from getting into their majors as fast as they want

Computers: The campus provides a lot with its computers. The only problem is there's only one main lab and during finals it fills quickly

2 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: The majority of students overuse alcohol and weed to an annoying amount. You can't even sit in your apartment without the smell of weed filling your livingroom/bathrooms. The closer you are to campus the more you'll hear students screaming walking down the street and stumbling down the road.

Local Atmosphere: The campus is in the middle of nowhere. There is nothing here.

Nightlife: Most of the parties at the main places get busted.

Guys & Girls: Everyone is either a hillbilly or from an inner city school in the bronx, philly or D.C.

Campus Strictness: The campus police are very helpful and aren't out to get students.

Off-Campus Housing: It depends on where you go but the larger student apartment complexes are loud and security rarely does much to resolve issues. They're close to campus though and definitely within walking distances. Landlords are either non-existent or unhelpful in resolving many issues. Most places off campus have adequate parking. I have had my car keyed in one of the parking lots however.

Drug Safety: I do not hear anyone ever talking about drugs. I have not witness peer pressure.

Off-Campus Dining: There are a good number of fast-food places. Not too many restaurants and they do not offer student discounts.

Local Atmosphere: There is not much to do in Altoona, but State College is close. Many students go there for their weekends.

Transportation: We have shuttles that take the students to and from the campus from their apartments. Shuttles also go to the Walmart in Altoona. Taxis are expensive. Public Transportation would be hard to locate and get to without walking very far.

Scholarships: Penn State Altoona helps with FASFA and has many scholarship opportunities. I had no problem getting financial aid. I just wished it was a bit more.

Diversity: The campus is made up of mostly Caucasian students. Although, there are students who are from all over the world. Most students are commuter students because Altoona is in a local community.

Health & Safety: There are phones at certain point on campus if you ever need the police. At night, it is scary to walk around campus because there have been incidents of women being assaulted.

Nightlife: Many people have parties at their off-campus houses or apartments. There are not too many things to do in Altoona, so many students drive to State College on the weekends to have fun.

3 College Senior

Greek Life: Greek life is not very well-known. There are a few, but I do not hear anything about them like parties or their community service.

Off-Campus Housing: There are a good many housing options and apartments that have nice utilities included.

Health & Safety: being that it is a college with different people from different backgrounds there is never a certainty that there will never be crime but the campus police take very careful measures to make sure the students are protected against any ill mannered crime

Weather: my school is in Pennsylvania so it does snow a lot during the winter and early spring. when it snows, its bad. But i would say that it affects my college experience at all maybe just restricts the movement of cars and results in the cancellation of classes and special events but those are always rescheduled so it is a win win situation. we get a free day off school when its cancelled and the special events do get rescheduled.

Off-Campus Dining: because of the college i go to and where it is located we do have a few options for us to choose from and in terms of price i think its great because all we need to do is add lion cash to our ids at school and any place be it fast food or regular restaurants or even grocery stores we can decide to use our lion cash and its an automatic 10% discount from the original price. so i would say it does help instead of having to pay full cost for the meal plan which is restricted to only campus food . the best places to check out with be the pizza places ( pizza hut etc) chinese food and various fast food places ( mac donalds, sheetz ) the do have great choices for college students not looking to spend that much money.

Off-Campus Dining: Vagans suffer, so do vegetarians. Not much does the place offer

Transportation: It gets too cold to go to bus stop that is far and one.

Not very expensive but has a schedule

Health & Safety: it is good, though I have heard a case in passing but nothing that might substantiate

Off-Campus Housing: Nittany pointe is amazing. That is where i have lived and i love it pretty much. Though it is expensive

The overall experience at Penn State Altoona is a great one for most, and many say that the campus has exceeded their expectations. The smaller campus is great—and if you’re concerned about a smaller campus equaling a small-minded student body, don’t be. The Penn State Altoona campus is a perfect balance of size and personality, and the atmosphere allows for people to get to know one another in a number of situations. This is a place where friendships bloom and flourish to their fullest extent, and are then kept up long after graduation.

The professors at Penn State Altoona are all very open about their research, and each one is excited to be teaching. All the professors are real intellectuals, and they have such an abundance of knowledge in their field, as well as many other topics. And they are helpful to all students, regardless of whether you know them well or are taking one class with them. At college, students learn the most from the people who assign the textbooks, not the actual textbooks themselves (although some professors at Penn State Altoona write their own textbooks), and this University is no different.
