Student Body: Because my school is located in a small town, there isn't a wide variety of students. There is some diversity.

Online Courses: I have only taken one online course at this school. It has been an overall good experience.

Academic Flexibility: I do have to shuffle my other responsibilities around my curriculum, but that is only due to the fact that it is an academic program in which there is only one offered time for the core classes since there are only enough students for one class.

Tuition & Financial Aid: The financial aid process has been more of a hassle than anything. However, the faculty of the financial aid office have been very helpful.

Overall Experience: My overall experience has been decent. However, I would rather be at my previous school attended. PHCC is unique because it serves as a gateway to successful futures for people in a small town.

Academic Experience: Compared to a university it may not be perfect. However, most of the professors are very helpful and caring. I enjoy being a student there.

Overall Experience: The teachers and professors are very professional. They are great instructors who take the time to make sure all the students understand the lesson material. However, the administrative department is a mess. I am a recently separated Army veteran and have had repeated problems using my GI Bill to pay for classes at this school. I was continually told I was good to take classes and then they were all dropped by the business department twice within the first two weeks of school. Not only that but, I lived in Virginia for 18 years before I served 5 years in the military and PHCC refused to give me in-state tuition when I registered this fall. They cited some law that I had to have VA drivers license, VA car registration, utility bills in my name in VA, and a couple other documents. Even though I told them other colleges in the area considered me an in-state student they stuck to their "law." The business department, placement and testing, and veterans affairs official do not communicate well between each other. I've talked to other regular students about their financial aid and have been told PHCC messed up there aid as well. PHCC gave them a much lower Pell Grant amount then their estimate when they applied. Overall, it seems the college is not military friendly, or friendly to anyone for that matter, which is strange because they have lower enrollments than past years so you would think they would be doing everything they can to get students. I had a much better experience when talking to Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, VA. I picked PHCC instead because its in Martinsville where I live but, I wish I had chose VWCC.

Academic Flexibility: I just started College today so I really dont know what to expect.

5 Recent Alumnus

Student Body: All of the students I have come in contact with are hardworking. They all have strong career goals and are very motivated.

5 Recent Alumnus

Online Courses: The online classes are tougher but are doable. Most professors have an outline ready at the very beginning of the semester so that you know all of your assignments and due dates for the entire semester. The outline allows you to pace yourself to keep up in the course or even work ahead if you choose to.
