4 College Freshman

Online Courses: I recently took an online course for Cultural Anthropology with Southwestern Community College through my college and it was a wonderful experience. It was so great and worked into my busy schedule so well, that I am taking my Nutrition class this next term online.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I was very excited to learn and my professors have really brought out even more enthusiasm if that is possible. My only worries were that even though I have no problem expressing what I think, in the classroom atmosphere, it was just like being in school again where you were afraid to answer the questions for fear of getting the answer wrong. I have never experienced that moment and I think that is what should be expected of a small town college. It should be expected in all schools.

Academic Experience: As an adult and finally having the time to go to school to achieve my dreams, this college has been very supportive. Nursing is very important in our coastal community, already working in the hospital here, we work with the nursing students very closely. Nursing is a very tightly knit community and every teacher supports you even when working on your prerequisites. The Director of the Nursing Program has stepped in as my own counselor and encouraged me along the way.

4 College Freshman

Academic Experience: The academics offered at my school range from the nursing programs to criminology. It seems to me that all of the professors at the school really want you to succeed no matter the goal.

4 College Sophomore

Tuition & Financial Aid: I feel the level of education is satisfactory but still feel that the cost is to high.

4 Recent Alumnus

Academic Experience: I really have learned a lot about the aquarium science, and am ready to learn even more about it when I head to UofH for my BA. It is a great starting point and helped my really decide what area of Marine life I want to work in.

Campus Resources: I've never had a problem with the computer network at the college, they also have tec help through the school and I have also printed things there I've needed. It is a smaller colleges so would recommend a your own computer.

5 Recent Alumnus

Campus Resources: It is one of the only Community Colleges that has an Aquarium Science program and its a very good program I would recommend it to other students with an interest in this field.

3 Recent Alumnus

Tuition & Financial Aid: The education I have received has been good and the cost far compared to other Community Colleges, but they need to make aid available to the middle class. I always runs into the problem that my parents make to much money for assistance or financial aid, but they don't really $85,000 to $90,000 for a family of 4 is not that much.

Academic Experience: I'm just finishing the aquarium science program at OCCC. I really liked it the classes and work load was intensive, but the more I got in to them the more I loved what I was learning. I would recommend this program to anyone who whats to work in an aquarium.
I'm heading to Hawaii for a internship and to get my bachelors in Marine Bio.

3 College Senior

Campus Resources: Its a very small school and there are no athletics or student center

4 College Senior

Student Body: Most of the students are getting their AA degree or taking classes to get ready to go on to a Bachelors degree

3 College Senior

Campus Resources: the campus wifi always screws up but the resources some have are great like our library, disabilties services etc.

2 College Senior

Academic Experience: having issues with finacial aid causeing problems to pay for my remaining tutuion left at this college.

3 College Senior

Student Body: Most Are Older Adults – I have found that most of the student body consists of more older adults (25+) and they are serious about going to class and doing the work. They like to socialize and have fun, but school, work and families take priority.

5 College Senior

Online Courses: Great for Busy People – I was nervous about taking online class because I like to procrastinate, but the schedule in which they require work and responses from people kept me in check. I have two kids, one being a baby, and I work so the flexibility of when I could do classes helped a huge amount. The professors were very good about getting work graded and handing criticism out promptly.

3 College Student

Tuition & Financial Aid: $99 Per Credit – The cost at OCCC is about $99 dollars per credit being the highest in tuition rates out of the majority of the strand of OCCC's.
The have very little extra money to give scholarships to the students

3 College Student

Online Courses: A So-So Environment – I am a hands on and visual learner, so providing me with a book or books and asking me to continuously summarize it without any work sheets, hand outs, teacher demonstrations and so on. I had issues with some of my professors never replying to me throughout the entire term which may have had an affect on my opinion for online classes because teachers become busy as any human does and can negate replying for whatever reason.

4 College Sophomore

Student Body: Everyone Does Their Own Thing – A lot of the students have their own agenda but seem nice enough to approach if someone would have a question. the student body is extremely diverse, which i personally like. i feel safe on my campus due to all the security, especially in the parking lots. Student seem respectable of other students, so there is a good atmosphere.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Resources: blackboard for the school either works or it doesn't. i believe it has a mind of its own because some days certain files will be under my course, some days the files are gone. the teachers explain to us that they put in everything they need for us on blackboard but sometimes blackboard looses it or puts it in a different order. i believe my school bought the cheapest version of blackboard and should upgrade. the main reason for doing so is because there are so many students, the system will not work or let you log on if there are a lot of students using the network.
