College Sophomore

Greek Life: I know nothing about Greek life on or off campus at ORU.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: I feel good about the diversity at the school. It makes for a great learning environment.

2 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Personally, I have only seen one security person in the two years I have been at ORU, and he was in a booth near one of the parking areas. He was not helpful at the time. At night, I have never seen one, execpt maybe in the booth near the Mabee Center, where there are rarely any students or parking. I feel I am on my own when walking around campus after dark. I think there is a false assumption of safety on campus and in buildings.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: There seems to be a lot to do and choose from. Interests is wide from college sports to the cultural scene, casinos and parks and recreation. There is also shopping and dining from fast foods to fine dining.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: The quality of dining over the past two years since I have been at the school has been somewhat inconsistent. Yet, I do have an appreciation for the variety offered weekly/daily. I like the socialization during meal times.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Financial staff does not seem to be as familiar in answering questions, i.e. billing and schedule for payments, i.e. reimbursements as they should be, or as in my previous experiences at other schools.

College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I am not familiar with off-campus housing.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: I am a modular doctoral student. Students in my discipline are made aware well in advance expectations for classes - pre-course, on-campus and post-course. Students are given information well in advance, including book list, regarding upcoming classes, professors are introduced and give introductory presentations regarding upcoming classes, including review of expectations, rubrics and opportunity to ask questions. Students are never caught off guard. The downside of the program is that there is not any scholarship or fellowships available to assist commuter students in particular. Doctoral students need additional money to finish the last leg of their pursuit. This seems to be an oversight and attention to this need is paramount.

Academics: There is a disconnect for modular students between completing the M.Div or M.Div equivalency and entering the DMIN program. This presents the biggest gap. An accurate cost projection of yearly or total program is not given to students. This becomes a burden in terms of unknown expectations as well as any monetary assistance or options, in some form. Most professors are great and available. However, some are difficult to track down and response to students is less than desired. DMIN students should be encouraged to visit and utilize the alumni center, which is very nice and makes the student proud. A special accommodations agreement should be in place for commuter (modular) students and visitors. Lodging is very expensive and a deterrent to attending. Also, meal plans should be an option for the commuter (modular) student. A full library tutorial should be utilized instead of the "drive-by" course grad modular students get. A power-point or video would be valuable.

College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: I have no personal reference to strictness or lack there of regarding campus strictness, except for policies as described in the student handbook.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I have no personal reference to campus housing, as I am a commuter (modular) student. However, speaking with students who do live on campus, housing is pleasureable and seem safe and enjoyable.

Guys & Girls: The overall look of both guys and girls at Oral Roberts ranges from trendy to conservative because of the varied programs and ages of students. The student population is multi-generational. The school itself is Christian-based but includes secular undergraduate and graduate degrees and seminary.

Local Atmosphere: Tulsa, OK provides the best of both city and country living. It keeps the country feel because it is so spread out with beautiful green grass and trees. It keeps the city feel because there are many restaurants to partake of, a couple of event centers, several museams and several sports teams to cheer on. (ie. Tulsa Drillers, Oilers, Shock).

4 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Oral Roberts University (ORU) seeks to maintain a high level of student conduct to keep students safe and to align its students to the mission of ORU, which is to raise up whole people - spirit, mind, and body.

College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: I did not have the opportunity to meet a lot of people due to being in hospital about ten times and always being behind on homework.

College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Don't eat off campus enough to know.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: It's a great place to live, just the wasp problem makes it hard to feel safe in your own room.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: The security is strict on the things that they should be, not random stupid stuff. They do not treat anyone like criminals and are very friendly and helpful.

College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: We don't have off-campus unless you petition for off-campus housing.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Cafe needs to use seasoning the food has no flavor to it a lot of times, also some foods taste under cooked.

College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Sexual assault is not a problem on my campus.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: The Athletic Center (AC) at my school is really good and allows athletes and non-athletes a wide variety so they can work out however they like. There are many machines, different rooms, and even two places for wait training.

2 College Sophomore

Scholarships: The financial aid office continued to loose my information over and over again causing my financial aid not to be submitted until 3 months after my mother had submitted the fafsa and any other information. Now I do not have the financial aid I need to pay for school and even though my mom trying to hide the truth from me I know she can not afford to pay for my school.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: This school allows for great opportunities, and has a great connection with all it's students. This school allows a great deal of hands on classes that allows us as students to learn as we participate and actually work as if we had a real job. I love this school because teachers are willing to help you in any way they can even if it means extra work for them because they want the students to accomplish their dreams. The school also allow those who attend to grow as a Whole Person in mind, body, and spirit.

College Sophomore

Greek Life: I do no know any Greeks.

Nearly everyone at ORU said that if they had to make their college decision all over again, they would still choose this university. Students give high marks to the strong Christian community here, and say that the professors and students are approachable, kind, and helpful. Another positive is the size of the school—it’s easy enough to get personal attention from the teachers, but the school is still large enough that you’ll regularly be able to meet lots of new, unique people.

Overall, Oral Roberts University is a great place for anyone who has a strong desire to become spiritually awake, intellectually alert, physically disciplined, professionally competent, and socially adept!
