Off-Campus Housing: There are plenty of off-campus housing options that are fairly priced. Most off-campus housing is close to campus and therefore, not an inconvenience.

5 College Sophomore

Transportation: The campus buses come frequently and travel all around campus. The COTA buses also go all around Columbus and are free to OSU students.

Drug Safety: From my experience at OSU, there aren't n abundance of drugs on campus. Many people smoke cigarettes but that's all I've witnessed.

Health & Safety: There are emails that go out every so often with safety concerns as well as updates on recent crimes to help students prepare. OSU is very well lit which also drives down crime. I do believe, however, that the columbus police department should be more worried with suspicious criminal activity in the outskirts of off campus housing than with the parties happening near campus as those are not the real danger. Also, there is a safety services department that acts as a taxi for students that do not want to go home alone at night.

Diversity: The diversity on campus, especially during the summer months, is extremely noticable. Sometimes as a caucasian student, I believe I am the minority! It's wonderful having so many people from different parts of the world, or even from the same areas with different upbringings. Religously, my inner group of friends spans everything from Hindu to Buddhist to Orthodox and Agnostic, but everyone has respect for eachother's personal beliefs, as we do with sexual orientation. I also believe my group of friends could accurately describe THE Ohio State University as a whole

Majors: I have yet to get an internship. It is actually difficult.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: I would definatley choose OSU over and over again.

Campus Strictness: You can really do whatever you want as long as you are not bothering everyone.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: There always seems to be construction going on. I hate that but it is a beautiful campus. Alot of kids. alot of different places to live.

4 College Sophomore

Nightlife: there is so much to do, places to go. The campus is like a large city in itself. You can't be bored here.

5 College Junior

Academics: Just had a great opportunity to attend a forensics field school...it was awesome. I learned a lot and made some great connections for the future.

Scholarships: I was only offered 1 scholarship opportunity from the university, which I did not win. Hence, I receive no money from the university at all.

Health & Safety: I feel safe on OSU's campus, but I know for a fact: people steal bikes, people steal computers and unattended belongings. And there have been quite a few muggings on the streets around campus and where a lot of student housing is, despite claims of increased campus policing at night. I don't feel especially safe at night, due to the big city and the actuality of crime within it, but OSU tries, complete with little emergency stations all around campus.

Scholarships: It's not a perfect system and some people with unfortunate financial backgrounds can get lost in the shuffle, as in real life. However, setting up an appointment to meet with a financial aid adviser here can be extremely helpful, and if you plead your case, you could be awarded up to $3,000 if necessary to help you attend your next year. There are also a number of options to earn scholarships all around campus.

Greek Life: Greek life can help you receive recognition from others in Greek life, but generally isn't very important at Ohio State by itself. Often they are simply just seen as party students, while there are some outliers who are known to be more productive members of society, and largely, Greek housing takes up a few streets off-campus.

Athletics: Varsity sports are a great source of income for the University. However, being a club sport member it is unfortunate that we do not get any benefits form the university especially NO funds whatsoever. Some sports are only club and will never reach varsity status and it is unfair to those students who are members of those clubs.

Weather: When it is hot, it's hot. Same with the cold in the winter. Lots of time spent outside walking around campus. But there is a campus bus service for when it is raining or just too cold to walk.

Diversity: Depending on your major, you may see a very diverse student body. In the engineering majors we see many different ethnicities and backgrounds.

Off-Campus Dining: Columbus has pretty much anything and everything you could ever want to eat! There is such a great diversity of cultures in Columbus that really helps to contribute to the variety of food available. Price ranges vary from cheap college kid prices to super pricey food, but it all tastes good! Almost anything you want is within walking distance from campus or easily accessible from the bus line. One place I would definitely check out is Bodega. It has a really cool vibe. It's a sit down restaurant, and prices are about average ($7-$15), and the food is excellent!

Majors: I will start my program in International Studies this fall, so as of yet I am unsure how difficult it will be to get through the program. But, aside from not having any experience in the program yet, I have talked to many different advisers who have a degree in International Studies. The advisers have been very encouraging about the major and have made me excited for the many different possibilities for different jobs when I graduate.

Health & Safety: We get emails about different crimes that happen around campus in order to keep us up to date on the information. Students can always call campus security to drive them somewhere on campus or if they are feeling unsafe. I usually do not feel unsafe on campus but it changes a little when you go farther off campus.

Nightlife: There are many clubs on high street that people can go to in order to hangout with friends and have some fun. There are certain days of the week that people 18 and over are allowed into the club so make sure you know what days you can go to the different clubs.

Facilities: The rpac on campus is awesome and is a great place to work out or play sports with your friends. There are many libraries on campus that are great for students to spend as much time needed to study at any time. The oval is a place for everyone to hangout between or after classes. This is where people play frisbee, bring their dogs, suntan, and meet new friends.

2 College Sophomore

Weather: It's Ohio weather. There's hot, cold, rainy, snowy, sunny, cloudy, whatever you can think of. It's very unpredictable but school will almost never get cancelled because of it. Just have clothes for all kinds of weather.

4 College Junior

Academics: I love the professors for allowing us to use our critical thinking to solve problems and process new information.

There is a reason the Buckeye Nation is considered to be so devoted; an overwhelming love for OSU is evident in student responses, and in the loyalty of alumni to their alma mater. Each person has his or her own reasons for loving the University, and there are quite a few of them. Some students feel that the academics are top-notch and have found exactly the programs they wanted; others lean toward the athletic success of the Buckeye teams, while some just feel that the friendships and bonds they have made are enough to make their tenure at OSU worthwhile. At any rate, everyone can agree that being a Buckeye creates a special bond between you and nearly 50,000 other students, which you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

Once you get past the sheer size of the University, it will really become a second home. After only a quarter of classes, you won't be able to cross the Oval without seeing someone you know. Ohio State is truly the smallest large university you will find. The people are known for their friendly attitudes, and alumni are scattered across the nation. If you choose to go to OSU, you're choosing a school with a name that's well known, both in the workplace and in the college community. Few students ever regret their time at Ohio State, and most consider their college experience to be among the best offered in the Big Ten and the country.
