College Sophomore

Nightlife: I do not tend to go to the bars or clubs or any of the parties.

Health & Safety: On campus I feel pretty safe but once off of campus over by the book store I dont feel very safe. I would rather constantly travel in a group.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: They have been very helpful and have shown me who I am and who I want to me. It has kept my close to my family and friends at home and given me so many options with activities and jobs and organizations.

2 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: At osu there are many different kinds of guys from preepy to down to earth, and athletic to nerdy. Guys are most interested in getting girls and going to parties.

Drug Safety: The drug and alcohol isnt bad ON campus but as soon as you cross the street its party central. There are parties every night even on week nights.

Parking: Campus parking cost so much. Its bad enough when you already commute and have to pay for gas there and back but also have to pay so much money to just pull into a parking spot is crazy! Also in order to get a spot you have to get there like an hour before if you want to get a spot and still try to make it class on time.

Campus Strictness: The cops seem very nice and laid back as long as you are respectful and abide by the rules. The like to keep the campus safe.

Local Atmosphere: People here in Columbus are a lot friendlier than folks back home in Boston! Everyone is proud of the university it's pretty amazing. There's just a great sense of community even though our campus is so big. I love it.

Transportation: You simply don't need a car here. The campus buses are awesome. COTA, which is free with your BUCK ID, also gives you access to all the interesting stuff in Columbus. Easton is a good shopping location but it does take approximately 1 hour each way by bus.

Greek Life: I don't know that much about it yet but there are tons of social AND professional frats/sororities. You don't feel left out if you're not in one though, it just seems like an added layer of community.

Scholarships: As an out-of-state student it ended up being cheaper for me to go here than to my home state university. The national buckeye scholarship is pretty easy to get. They did a great job with helping me get loans and handling my external scholarships.

Campus Housing: Freshmen are required to live on campus. Some dorms are really nice and school just renovated many of its dorms, so in general, they are nicer now.

Nightlife: If you're 21+, there are many bars around campus for you. They normally have specials on weekdays and people love hanging out in bars on weekend nights. Football Saturdays are crazy here. For people under 21, there are bars downtown that let underage people in and there are many house parties around from thursday-saturday.

Athletics: The football team here is great. Many opportunities in intramurals and club teams. People are really into workouts and the gym facilities here are fantastic.

Weather: I'm from Chicago originally, and I just hate Ohio weather. In Philadelphia we can get four season in just one day. The temperature is always all over the place. In Chicago if the new says one thing it's usually stays in that range. Ohio state is unpredictable.

Diversity: OSU is a huge campus, which leds to a huge diversity. I have seen almost every ethnic group walking around campus. Even though most of the students are white rich kids, there are still many events that celebrate others races and groups of people. It's not as equality diverse as I would like, But I'm still a proud Buckeye.

Off-Campus Dining: Restaurants are very interesting and very school spirited, which I like. However, some of the prices are a little expensive. My favorite place to go is Chumley's. I love the atmosphere and the food is incredible! They cater to many different types of people, and have a great selection of beer. I always try new ones every time I go!

Parking: Parking on campus can be stressful. To get a good spot, come early, but there are plenty of parking lots. The parking garage fees can add up, if you use those. There aren't many cheap close by parking spaces though.

Majors: For most of the majors, you will have to have a certain GPA before they even let you in. Not to mention prerequisites that need to be completely before you even think about declaring that major. To get into your college, it's a headache. They base it on your GPA and your course and other things. It's tough, but if you do what you need to, you'll be okay.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: There is always places to go to study, there are many places where you can go to just hang out and relax. If you're hungry, there are tons of choices to pick from and many are just a couple minutes to get to. Great library spaces and awesome facilities. You're bound to find a place you like, a club to join, meet new people, and have a good time.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: This school provides so many opportunities for you to get involved and join student clubs and other activities. If you're willing and have time, they're definitely something to get into. We have an abundance of clubs/organizations in many varieties, it's not likely you won't find something you like.

Campus Strictness: Ohio State is very serious in their students' GPAs. If you're falling behind definitely see your TAs for help or your professor. You don't want to fall too behind because before you know it, you'll be playing catch-up and that is not fun. It's a tough university to be at and very competitive.

There are many social events that you can attend, but be warned there will be many consequences if you get caught doing anything illegal! Have yet to experience this, but have heard some stories.

Good luck!

Campus Housing: Small, not very clean. North Campus is not a nice place to live.

Drug Safety: The drug scene is not really big but it depends on who you hang out with.

Majors: Internships are highly valued here, especially at an university with such an extensive alumni base. I definitely plan on having multiple internships in the future, not only because of the amazing experience that they give you towards your major, but also because of the wealth of opportunity that Ohio State provides in helping students obtain these chances. If I want an internship, the resources to find one at easy accessible and actively encouraged.

There is a reason the Buckeye Nation is considered to be so devoted; an overwhelming love for OSU is evident in student responses, and in the loyalty of alumni to their alma mater. Each person has his or her own reasons for loving the University, and there are quite a few of them. Some students feel that the academics are top-notch and have found exactly the programs they wanted; others lean toward the athletic success of the Buckeye teams, while some just feel that the friendships and bonds they have made are enough to make their tenure at OSU worthwhile. At any rate, everyone can agree that being a Buckeye creates a special bond between you and nearly 50,000 other students, which you will carry with you for the rest of your life.

Once you get past the sheer size of the University, it will really become a second home. After only a quarter of classes, you won't be able to cross the Oval without seeing someone you know. Ohio State is truly the smallest large university you will find. The people are known for their friendly attitudes, and alumni are scattered across the nation. If you choose to go to OSU, you're choosing a school with a name that's well known, both in the workplace and in the college community. Few students ever regret their time at Ohio State, and most consider their college experience to be among the best offered in the Big Ten and the country.
