Nightlife: Don't go here if you're looking to rage every night. People really only party on the weekends, and parties are pretty modest. For me and most of my friends, the house parties are totally sufficient and fun, but real party animals might have a hard time finding something super crazy.

3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Parties are ok. Can't really do it in the dorms. I only go to off campus parties

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Really Good – there are parties at the greek houses every weekend and clubs and bars to go to

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Although many people complain about Oxy's lack of a strong greek system, do not think there is nothing to do on the weekends. House parties and frat parties here are fun and intimate, but there are a plethora of clubs in LA and Hollywood that have huge events basically every night of the week. If you are into electronic and house music, you will be in heaven here. If not, no worries. It's easy to find things to do.

Nightlife: Stuck in the Suburbs – Nightlife at Oxy really depends on your effort. Dances and other big events put on by Programming Board usually offer opportunities right on campus to dress up and get drunk with your friends if you're careful. Then there's the reliable "kick-back in someone's dorm room." If you're feeling ambitious and want to walk or have a DD, most weekends a frat or nearby house will throw decently fun parties, though sometimes they are exclusive.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are many college students across the country that always complain that the city or town that their college is in is boring. Well, this is Los Angeles, and Oxy is right in the middle of it. There is never a lack of entertainment or variety, and it's easy to find any kind of nightlife to suit your taste. Whether it's crazy parties all night long or mellow evenings at a bar or a coffeehouse, there's no reason to ever be bored. Admittedly, getting around without a car is difficult, but it is still possible, and you can always make sure that you make friends with people that have cars. Not having a car should not be a deterrent from going out and experiencing some of the most amazing club scenes around.

So take advantage of attending a school in a city with a happening nightlife scene. Los Angeles is one of the top cities in the United States for fun and entertainment. Just make sure that having fun does not completely consume you, and you don't forget about the most important thing, which are your grades. As long as you balance your social life and studies, going to school in Los Angeles should be a very rewarding experience.

Club ListingsWhat's This?

Red Rock

Located in the famous Sunset Strip, everyone has to go to Red Rock to see how loud and shameless partying can possibly be. Red-blooded frat boys and sorority sweethearts scope the scene until they can't stand anymore. Ask any bartender what his or her specialty is, and they'll allude to more than their drink-making talents. The large array of imported beers is also a popular feature, along with the Snakebite.

The Ivar

The Ivar is one of the many clubs that is replacing the Sunset Strip with Hollywood as the place to party in LA. Attire is very casual, in a very elegant setting. The parties can get incredibly crazy, and this club is consistently rated as one of the best. Parking is available near the club for $10-$20.

Bar ListingsWhat's This?

The Chalet

This bar with a cave-like appeal is cozy for night owls who like to keep things simple. Amber lanterns, a blazing fireplace, cushy booths dotted with throw pillows, and cheesy landscape oil paintings straight out of Bob Ross' "Joy of Painting" collection provide warmth and coziness, two attributes not always associated with LA's nightlife scene.

Los Angeles

4100 Bar

Incredibly good drinks mixed with an interesting far East theme of dragons and Buddha make this a really fun bar to hang out at. While very crowded, the atmosphere and cool, hipster vibe earn the 4100 Bar rave reviews, and the recommendations of many Oxy students.

What to Do if You're Not 21What's This?

The Echo

There's a definite freestyle fellowship in this 18-and-over club that extends from the DJs and performers to an audience comprised of b-boy cats and funky felines. This vibrant vibe creates an abstract ambience where anything can and does happen on the stage and the dance floor.
