3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: The campus strictness is understandable, but there are several freedoms that students may have on a typical college campus that is not allowed at Oakwood. We are not allowed to have visitation from the opposite sex and same sex visitation has a limit at 11 PM, while others may be able to go away for the weekend without consent, Oakwood requires consent to leave for weekends and vacation times. Also, there is curfew, for freshmen 12 PM and upperclassmen 1 PM while this is not a factor in neighboring universities. I personally don't have a problem with curfew because I typically need to be asleep by this time for my 8 o'clock classes, but putting in leaves for the weekend can be tedious; you get used to it.

The Oakwood University campus is a nice, friendly environment, and many rules are in place to help keep it that way. First and foremost, there is a curfew. Curfew is at 11:30 p.m. during the week and 12 a.m. on Saturday. Failure to get in on time will result in a fine. Many of the RAs are tolerant and will not fine you for being five minutes late, but it is best to make sure that you get in on time. The campus has a zero-tolerance for violence. Any violence demonstrated on campus will result in a huge fine or penalty and most likely a suspension. Oakwood is also very strict when it comes to cleanliness. Twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday, students are required to clean their rooms. Depending on your RA, it may only be required once a week. Failure to do so will result in a fine ranging from $50 to $250.

The standards of Oakwood are very high, and the campus is firm in upholding the school’s image. There is no set uniform for Oakwood, but there is a dress code which is part of the code of conduct. Students are asked not to wear jewelry to promote simplicity. Students are asked to practice abstinence from all negative behavior. There is to be no drug use or alcohol on campus. Women are not permitted in the men's dorms, and men are not permitted in the women’s dorms unless the buildings are having an open house. There is also mandatory chapel on Tuesday. Failure to attend will also result in a fine. Oakwood is very strict on rules.
