Scholarships: I believe I should have received scholarship money from Northwestern State from having an outstanding GPA from high school and an outstanding GPA in college. I have remained on the president's list/dean's list, but have not received additional funding from the school. I am constantly begging the scholarship department to offer me scholarship money.

Off-Campus Housing: I have not heard any complaints about off-campus living.

College Sophomore

Athletics: Honestly, I have not attended any athletic events.

Off-Campus Dining: Natchitoches has a decent number of local/chain restaurants, though I do wish there were a few more options to choose from.

4 College Sophomore

Greek Life: For the most part I think Greek-life is an important aspect of Northwestern. Students in Greek organizations are very involved in school related activities and it seems that we have a low hazing rate.

Health & Safety: One time I accidentally left my front door unlocked in my dorm and an intruder came into my dorm and then left when I saw him. I realized that I have seen this particular person in our cafeteria on numerous occasions. I called campus police and described the intruder and told campus police that I have seen this person before. Even though I claimed to have seen this person before, the campus police took no further action aside from taking down a report. That made me a little uneasy.

Campus Housing: The dorms are very nice and clean for the most part. The internet however is very touch-and-go. Every now and then the internet will go out, and when it does it normally takes a few days to get it working again. Fortunately there are computer labs on campus available to students.

Campus Dining: The food is of good quality but sometimes there should be more options to choose from besides pizza and hamburgers. The prices with the meal plan is fine because a person just have to swipe their card. The dining hall is very big and has seating all over so there are never complaints about sitting somewhere.

Health & Safety: I have never heard of serious problems on campus. The non-major gates close at 10pm each night, and the only one other is "watched" by police. The only problem I have had is my roommate's friends stealing my stuff.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: As a non-Greek, all I can say is that I don't mind them. I have a lot of friends in the Greek community and they all LOVE it. Most of them are extremely friendly and accepting. However, there is a large group of Greeks that are very closed off and bitchy/douche.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The girls on campus are extremely friendly for the most part. Everyone gets along really well and its easy to make friends in classes. The guys are about half and half. There is half that really nice, and there is half that's kind of a douche.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I have just moved off campus, and in comparison to living with strangers, I love it. I have a washer and dryer, I have roommate I can trust, and I live on the water. However, the landlord loves to ignore us, and the parking isn't the best.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Restraunts around town are good, I like the variety

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: The campus security is very helpful. If I have night classes and need help with something then they are there to help me

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I really appreciate how helpful Northwestern is with any questions I have about classes, my degree, or anything. The advisors are wonderful and all of the professors that I have had are great at their course.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: I do not really use the labs.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I do not do drugs.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: There are definitely many different diversities on campus.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: I have a car to get to and from.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I got a new place and love it.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I feel pretty safe at my school.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: I love to go to Cane's and Taco Bell, so the dining is great to me, but there could also be a lot more cooler places or more restaurants to eat at.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Classes are good and so are the teachers.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: Some things at school are sort of annoying. The university is slow at replying to emails and answering phones. I have had a lot of complications with the school about financial aid and things like that.

3 College Senior

Diversity: Everyone has their own opinion.

Before you come to NSU, the first thing you should do is figure out how to pronounce "Natchitoches," the name of the city in which the University is located (for the record, it's "Nack-i-tish"). After that, enjoy all that the University has to offer, including good academics, stellar school spirit, and a historic atmosphere in the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase. Some of the other assets of the school include its diversity, active Greek life, and activities both on and off campus.

If you are looking for a campus with rampant public transportation, then NSU might not be the school for you. The best way to get around would be by car or by foot. Also, the campus is a dry campus, which means it's alcohol-free. Other complaints from students include the cafeteria food, building hours, and the fact that it's mostly a commuter campus (with around 80 percent of undergrads living off campus).
