5 College Sophomore

Majors: I love being in the art department. The professors are really helpful.

College Sophomore

Majors: I haven't had an internship

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: It helps by getting socially involved

5 College Sophomore

Computers: Great internet, reliable, up to date computers

4 College Senior

Computers: The school provides each department with computers.

4 College Senior

Academics: It's excellent because you get attention more.

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: There is generally no danger when you're on campus.

4 College Senior

Greek Life: Greek life is abundant on campus. There are advantages to be in one, but you don't have to if you don't want to.

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: It's up to you whether you want to use drugs or alcohol. No one will discriminate you if don't.

4 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: The people around this area are friendly and are willing to help anyone who needs help. People are concerned on making you feel at home and will do any and everything to make you feel that way.

2 College Senior

Weather: The weather varies a lot. One day it can be cold, then the next day it will bright and sunny.

3 College Senior

Nightlife: There are places in this small town where you can go out and enjoy yourself. There aren't that many, but there is enough to keep you from being stuck at the house all day and night.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: It's a small town, but if you look for places, you're bound to find something that is pleasing to your taste.

4 College Senior

Diversity: Everyone seems open to people's sexuality as well as their religious or economic status. I interact and see people who work a wide variety of people who are diverse in many ways possible. There is no discrimination as far as I can see and everyone is accepting of your preference.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: Living off campus for me has benefited somewhat. The reason I say that is because I've lived with the same roommates since I've been in college. Now I'm to the point where I'm moving out on my own and living solo. There are places to live , you just have to look for them.

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: Living on campus seems like it wouldn't be bad. I've never lived on campus, but there weren't an option that said none of the above. I'm always on campus and the people that I socialize with say that living on campus really isn't that bad.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It's a great school, just not for everybody.

2 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Everyone drinks basically. And most of the fraternities do coke. Also a lot of people take prescription drugs to stay focused.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: There isn't much to do. It's a very small town. But it's beautiful.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: It's pretty diverse here, I would say it's about average. But people are very unique and free spirited and I will say this campus is pretty accepting.

2 College Freshman

Computers: Personally, I like working in the comfort of my own room and at my own time convenience, but there are computers on campus and you pay for a certain amount of prints you can make. However, the wifi availability is iffy. Natty is pretty small, so wifi and phone service kinda sucks.

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: There isn't much else to do in Natty, so the nightlife is about all you have to work with.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel really safe here, but I do worry about non-students on campus because it is very easy to get on campus.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: Everything is walking distance, some things are farther than others, but a car isn't absolutely necessary, just convenient.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: The restaurants on front street are good, but expensive. Besides that, there's mexican and fast food.

Before you come to NSU, the first thing you should do is figure out how to pronounce "Natchitoches," the name of the city in which the University is located (for the record, it's "Nack-i-tish"). After that, enjoy all that the University has to offer, including good academics, stellar school spirit, and a historic atmosphere in the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase. Some of the other assets of the school include its diversity, active Greek life, and activities both on and off campus.

If you are looking for a campus with rampant public transportation, then NSU might not be the school for you. The best way to get around would be by car or by foot. Also, the campus is a dry campus, which means it's alcohol-free. Other complaints from students include the cafeteria food, building hours, and the fact that it's mostly a commuter campus (with around 80 percent of undergrads living off campus).
