Nightlife: Theres lots of bars and breweries in town and attract many students.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: Theres an okay amount of scholarships but many have large guidelines

4 College Junior

Facilities: Theres a lot of great places on campus and many over spectacular views of lake superior and the "mountains" /woods. Some buildings are older but many are new and have a very open feel to them.

Campus Housing: Campus housing is great. Students are required to spend two years in the dorm and you really do gain valuable connections through housing.

Overall Experience: I love Northern and everything it offers. While it is still a big school, it has the small school feel. You have to be prepared for a cold winter but it can be fun.

Overall Experience: NMU does a great job at connecting you and the professors do as well. The Alumni network is also very willing to hire grads.

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Theres lots of variety on campus and everyone can find someone that interest them.

5 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Marquette has something for everyone. From the lake to bike trails to shopping downtown. Its a small town but still as everything you need!

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Off campus food is great. You have a large variety of both chain and local restaurants that feature great selections for every budget.

3 College Junior

Campus Dining: Campus dining has been greatly improving over the years. They have been making a great effort to step up the quality of the food and the variety as well.

2 College Junior

Greek Life: There is little greek life on campus and it easily forgotten. Many student just try to avoid it or go just to the parties. Many times you see the different houses fighting and hear lots of complaining but its kinda a hit or miss deal.

3 College Junior

Athletics: Northern offers some cool athletic facilitates including one of the worlds largest wooden dome. But depending on the year some teams don't do so well and students begin to ignore them. There is more support of hockey than any other sport but slowly the other teams are gaining bigger crowds. The best part of everything would be the marching and pep band. Me and my friends have gone to games just to see them.

4 College Junior

Diversity: Theres a lot of diversity on campus and everyone excepts each other. Its fun getting to meet others from different backgrounds and regions and learning about their lifestyles. And with over 300 student organizations, students are able to find a group that relates to their background, political beliefs, religion, sexual orientation and race.

Local Atmosphere: The Marquette area is one of the most beautiful. Closeby are many attractions: the beach, parks, hiking, ski trails, biking, etc.

Computers: Every student is issued a laptop - most have the Thinkpad, but art students are issued MacBooks. Software included as appropriate for your major and class schedule. Wireless is available all throughout campus, with WiMax service available throughout the city and some surrounding areas.

Athletics: NMU Hockey is huge. Football is coming back, I think. It's cool to have the USOEC on campus.

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus apartments are fairly close (within walking distance) to campus. Rent seems high for students, but that's life. There's a variety - duplex/triplex-type apartments or traditional apartment buildings.

Weather: Well, you have to be able to tolerate snow, ice, and cold. It's snowy here from November to March, with October, April, and May being pretty wintery as well.

Greek Life: Greek life is not a huge factor on campus. It would be nice to see it more respected and involved around campus, and less party-oriented.

College Junior

Majors: Haven't had an internship - but need one to complete my degree in Public Administration. Internships can be found using Career Services' online system, Cat Career Tracks. Sometimes on-campus jobs can be used for internship credit.

5 College Junior

Majors: I love the MPA program! So far, it's been great, very flexible. It will be helpful to secure a better position with my current employer, or to eventually work in local/municipal government (which also interests me).

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing is cheaper, in some cases, than living on Campus. Having a car may be necessary, depending on the location.

5 College Freshman

Computers: The university gives every student a pretty decent laptop. Students aren't required to take the laptops, but should so they can have updated software. The help desk for the laptops are very helpful and have great hours. Students can also go to the MERC to print 10 free pages a day, if they don't have a printer or money to print in the library.

Health & Safety: The health center on campus is very convenient. They have plenty of medicine at fair prices. Also, public safety is more than willing to drive you to the clinic if you feel unbearably sick, they are willing to come pick you up on campus at night if your afraid, and drive you to class if you have an injury.
