3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel completely safe at state. We've got campus police that are always a phone call away from us in case we feel threatened. I haven't had any problems!

3 College Sophomore

Parking: Parking is alright once you can get a good permit as a sophomore, but as a freshman - you have to take a bus to get to your car.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Spacious and Affordable – I live in a four bedroom townhome and I only have to pay 300 a month which is well in range of my budget

3 College Junior

Campus Dining: Not Very Diverse – The food can be bland and the options are rarely changed

4 College Junior

Academics: Diverse Learning Environment – For high school, I went to a small private school with a homogenous population of middle class white students. When I came to NC State, I was exposed to a very diverse population which very much represents the real world. The world is consisted of hundreds of different cultures, races, and religions. Experiencing this type of environment enriched my awareness of the beauty of having a diverse population of students who all want to obtain a higher education and a better life.

3 College Freshman

Weather: Rainy Days – It doesn't really get too bad around here weather wise. When it rains, there's a floodplain around the school because its all brick. Many people have been known to slip and fall.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Of course, there's strict policies on underage drinking and drug use, but that's not just a campus thing. I've never really heard anything around campus of the police getting serious due to student. Maybe a frat party getting shut down, but most students are pretty discrete with these dealings. There's only one serious incident with a student where police had to actually taser him because he was high and destroying campus property.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are tons of restaurants down Hillsborough Street, on the north side of NCSU. There is a large variety of places including Chinese and Mediterranean. Many places give out student discounts or handout coupons to campus residents. Some places are cheaper than what you would expect with excellent food and service. Others are around their normal price range such as Subway and Dunkin Donuts.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: It's Pretty Average – There's a variety of different types of boys and girls at this school. People seem to get along very well. Most guys wear t-shirts and jeans while most girls do the same. It's pretty average really.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: It's Okay – Most people here are white, but I don't necessarily feel left out or alone because of my race. I haven't run into any problems where people have been rude or hurtful to other races so far in my college career.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Campus Living – As far as the dorms go, they are pretty decent. Sullivan, Lee, and Bragaw have the biggest rooms. University housing is usually really good about fixing things when you file a work order. Suite style can be lonely though depending on whether you really bond with your suitemates or not. Some of the facilities could use some updating though.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: VERY STRICT POLICIES – There is very very little drug use on campus. We have certain "wet" dorms where alcohol is acceptable as long as you are of age and don't do anything stupid. Other drugs are only used by idiots who want to get booted out of the dorms faster than they can finish lighting their bowls or whatever. Seriously, they do not play around with drug policies here. Some people smoke cigarettes, but they are incredibly unpopular because no one wants to get a faceful of smoke from the idiot walking through the tunnel in front of them.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Good Arts Scene – Between DPAC and the Progress Energy Center, there's always some kind of performance going on and with the museums and such scattered around I can always find some culture when I need it.

3 College Junior

Transportation: The transportation system at NCSU gets you where you need to go but can be overcrowded/late.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: There is a ton of off campus housing at NC State. The prices range from cheap to expensive. There are plenty of complexes close to campus and within the university bus system. The one big con for off campus housing would be the parking.

4 College Junior

Diversity: At NC State, everyone accepts the way you are. They don't care of your socio-economic status, race, gender, sexual orientation; you feel welcome from the time you step in.

Computers: Wireless Access – At NC State, you have access to the university's wireless network every inch on campus (unless you are in a dorm and happen to live on 3+ floor)

5 College Junior

Facilities: NC State is the largerst four-year institution in the state of North Carolina with students from all 100 NC counties, 54 states and territories and 117 foreign countries.

Athletics: School Spirit – There is a high level of school spirit at NC State University. The football games are always packed as well as the basketball. Our school has formed many rivalries with surrounding schools. A vast majority of studnets keep up with athletics

4 College Junior

Facilities: Library Is Very Resourceful – The library at North Carolina State is very nice. The library is made up of several stories, each serving a different purpose. There are plenty of new computers in the library as well as laptops that are are available for renting. Along with laptops, you can rent headphones, video cameras, voice recorders, and other technological gadgets. There is also a small dining facility in the library. The library staff is beyond helpful.

Local Atmosphere: Campus Life – Raleigh is definitely a college city. The campus is located between two streets, Western Blvd. and Hillsborough Street. These two streets are filled with restaurants, stores, and other shops; all of which are within walking distance from campus. By simply going five minutes in a car off campus you can get to pretty much any type of store, attraction, or activity you could think of. Additonally, Everyone on campus is very spirited and sports are a big deal.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: Beer Before Bud – Most people choose to drink beer over smoke. I've never heard or seen anyone come to class high before, but some do come to early classes a little buzzed from the night before. Alcohol is very easy to obtain if you're underage, as is weed. The University, from what I know, is typically pretty relaxed with those sorts of violations; however, even simple possession of illegal substances is taken seriously. And most people won't pressure you into drinking or doing drugs.

3 College Junior

Nightlife: Abundance, With Little Diversity – There are a fair amount of clubs in Raleigh, but a lot of them are owned and promoted by the same people or have the same sorts of themes (like "College night Thursdays"). The majority of clubs are geared towards college students, though some clubs take aim at young professionals, African Americans, or the gay community.

Bars aren't big with students because most students who drink will do it with friends at their apartments/houses/dorms. Few people like to pay prices at bars when they could easily buy their own alcohol instead.

Transportation is excellent, though. The Wolfline has a bus service that runs on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from campus to downtown at regular intervals until last call. Cabs and a couple other services also exist for transportation.

Overall, the students' experience with NCSU is that it provides them with a rich learning environment. Students learn to balance play and work. Some come to NC State because of family tradition, to get away from the cold, or because of the College of Engineering-but whatever the reason is for the individual, positive feedback always finds its way out. Professors at the University will go above and beyond their call of duty. You make lifelong friends, and you have a huge list of organizations to partake in. Whether you're involved in a college sport, student government, or the Agribusiness Club, you will find your niche here among the thousands of students. Some professors will take you under their wing, and you will learn enormous amounts of information from them. These professors will also become lifelong connections who will probably end up writing letters of recommendation for you when it is time for you to find a job.

NC State wants its students to succeed not only in academics, but in life, too. Here you learn important lifelong skills that are essential to your survival in the real world. Classes can be rigorous and stressful, but students find a way to overcome hardships and get through. Professors will push you to do your best, but at the same time, they understand what it was like to be a student. NC State will help you become an expert in your subject of choice, and with the large number of students, you will come out of college ready to work in some of the most diverse settings.
