Majors: What's great about being in the CHASS program is we have more choices for electives and cooler classes that will get rid of your general ed requirements. Instead of taking something like chemistry or biology, I took introduction to companion animals to get rid of my science requirement. Also, you can get rid of your requirements in any order as long as they are completed by graduation. Other programs have certain classes that you have to take certain years which limits their free choices.

Majors: Outlines for your major and plans for courses are pretty easy to understand. There is also a lot of professors who want to help you get jobs as soon as possible which is nice. For admissions, I would make sure you have a strong background in the humanities on your transcript.

Majors: Some majors at NCSU are good and nationally re known, while others are not as good and considered below average. The engineering at State has and will always be excellent while the biology program will continue to lag behind UNCCH's.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: The off campus housing is very good at NCSU. It has a wide variety of housing choices very close to campus. The only down side to these choices is that they are a bit more expensive than the average person would want.

3 College Freshman

Computers: While the campus has a large amount of available computers and computer labs, the computers are not very good, and they always seem to crash at some point during work.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: The campus dining is open at reasonable times and also has a wide selection of foods; however, the food is never excellent. On rare occasion something will strike the eater as "good."

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The dorms are quite small compared to some other college dorms, but they are located near the majority of campus activities which helps people connect with others.

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: There are so many options because of how big Raleigh is that everyone will find something that fits them!!

4 College Junior

Athletics: Going to all events at NC State are fun and give you the sense of feeling involved, even if we don't win EVERY game.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: I have never experienced any moments of feeling unsafe personally, but students are always being sent alerts for crime on campus which is a little scary.

4 College Junior

Campus Dining: Food is edible, and there are some good options, but as far as being excited to eat in the dining hall-I never was.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: The drug scene at NC State isn't really big. It all depends on who you hang around with. Most people smoke, while others drink.

3 College Freshman

Weather: The weather at State is usually sunny. It sometimes gets cloudy, and usually rains when it does. Cloudy days tend to be a bit breezy.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Great food and plenty of options on and off campus

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Very strong school. Profs have very high standards and are all well respected

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: parking permit is fair and free parking in many places at night. free bus all over campus

4 College Sophomore

Majors: internships would be very easy. I don't have to do one but i have hosted a MSW at NCSU and its easy to find one.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: from what i understand they mean business in terms of their rules but it is nothing like a private college

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Everything was straightforward and I found out if I was admitted very quickly.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Athletics are a big part of North Carolina State University. There are several clubs and intramural sports teams and students are greatly involved in that. The official sports teams work very hard and they have earned a huge fan base on and off campus. That being said, they have their own dining hall, scholarships, and students on campus are always ready to show their school spirit.

5 College Freshman

Academics: The academics at NCSU are great. The professors are very proficient and willing to help during their office hours. The curriculum is very diverse and it is easy to switch majors during your first couple of years to find the one you enjoy most. The work load is as challenging as you make it, but despite having 16-18+ hours, there is a lot of room for failure. I say this because all classes have the schedule for the course listed on the moodle page and in most cases, the homework can be done months ahead of time. You can't go wrong attending NCSU.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: Fraternities and sororities are greatly involved in the events going on around campus and are great contributors to the social atmosphere on campus. I have a couple friends in fraternities and sororities and they just seem more sociable and likeable than some of my other friends. Perhaps it is because they are constantly involved in events.

4 College Junior

Diversity: when someone spray painted obscenities on the LGBT student group door most people protested and rallied in support of the club. I found it very inspiring despite some jerk's ignorant actions.

Health & Safety: We get alerts of crimes happening just off campus.

Nightlife: There are house parties and on campus events that happen frequently, but the true nightlife of NCSU and Raleigh happens downtown for those who are over 21. The bars are diverse and interesting, with taxis as well as a bus line running to and from downtown (this bus is infrequent and difficult to catch).

Overall, the students' experience with NCSU is that it provides them with a rich learning environment. Students learn to balance play and work. Some come to NC State because of family tradition, to get away from the cold, or because of the College of Engineering-but whatever the reason is for the individual, positive feedback always finds its way out. Professors at the University will go above and beyond their call of duty. You make lifelong friends, and you have a huge list of organizations to partake in. Whether you're involved in a college sport, student government, or the Agribusiness Club, you will find your niche here among the thousands of students. Some professors will take you under their wing, and you will learn enormous amounts of information from them. These professors will also become lifelong connections who will probably end up writing letters of recommendation for you when it is time for you to find a job.

NC State wants its students to succeed not only in academics, but in life, too. Here you learn important lifelong skills that are essential to your survival in the real world. Classes can be rigorous and stressful, but students find a way to overcome hardships and get through. Professors will push you to do your best, but at the same time, they understand what it was like to be a student. NC State will help you become an expert in your subject of choice, and with the large number of students, you will come out of college ready to work in some of the most diverse settings.
