Greek Life: Greek life is fairly prevalent. It is not common for everyone to being a frat or sorority, but many people are. Greek circle is scheduled to be made new as well, as the houses are very old.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Most RA's give warnings concerning alcohol and the second offense will result in consequences. A campus referral will result.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Great selection of off campus dining. Large row of fast food places as well as nicer restaurants downtown as well.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drugs are not very visible. Alcohol is more prevalent, although there is significant drug use.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: There are many computers and printing available to use at the library and laptops to rent

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Scholarships are fairly competititve. With an above 3.0 GPA i did not receive study abroad money or money for my college

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: Student center and Gym are currently undergoing rennovations to improve them. The dining halls could use work

3 College Sophomore

Parking: Parking is available by permit on campus, but free everywhere after 5 on weekdays and on weekends

Campus Dining: Dining Is Average – Dining hall food isn't the best. Major chain places like chick fil a and Taco Bell are a good way to get some variety but they get old after a while as well.

1 College Sophomore

Scholarships: My experience with the financial options is not good. I am working on a graduate certificate in e-learning. NCSU does not offer any financial aid to students unless you are in a degree program. There is no consideration for the continuing adult student.

Transportation: NCSU Transportation has partnered with Capital Area Transit (CAT) and Triangle Transit (TT) to offer free area transit to all NC State students, faculty and staff. The program is called "GoPass" and is meant to provide an alternative to driving. Other transportation options are: Wolfline, GoPass, CAT (Capital Area Transit), Triangle Transit, GoTriangle Trip Planner, Emergency Ride Home, and Wolfrails Application.

College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Campus Safety – Public safety personnel do a good job of alerting students to campus crime, etc. I do not live on campus and can say that in the one year and a half that I have bee enrolled, there has not been any major criminal activity.

College Junior

Drug Safety: I cannot speak to drug activity at NCSU because I live off campus.

4 College Freshman

Weather: There is very little snow here and most professors have a snow policy that if it is too bad for you to get to class, they don't mind you not going. It goes through the normal weather of temperate areas (warm to cold to warm) and most people hang out outside in spring and early fall.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Drugs and Alcohol Are Not Really Visible – Although there is some drinking, it is not very visible and varies from group to group. Drugs are also not very common and I don't really know how widespread or not it is.

3 College Freshman

Parking: There are many parking lots but you have to have a parking pass to park anywhere convenient.

5 College Freshman

Academics: There are so many different organizations and people to help you answer all of your questions and get you the help that you need. There is also a very large sense of community here. The educational units at NCSU also provide great learning environments for students and is a place to gain valuable experience.

Overall Experience: A State Degree – So far I have been very satisfied with my stay here at State! A degree from State is very versatile and will hold it's value I have no doubt. At times it has been challenging, butting heads with professors and all, but for the most part the value NC State has to offer cannot be beat.

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: Not What I Expected – As a junior, I was expecting most students to be growing out of the whole marijuana and pill popping craze. I can confidently say I was quite wrong! I have been searching for roommates here lately and I'd say around half of the people I have met up with openly admit they use drugs and asked me if I would be alright with that going on in the house, I've kindly declined.

Off-Campus Housing: Campus Edge – I currently live at Campus Edge apartments, they are okay, but overpriced in my opinion for what you get. Next year I will be living at the Retreat, I will be paying thirty dollars more per month, but it will be well worth it. Overall, off campus housing options are in abundance to fit any price range.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Mansion or Shack: Take Your Pick! The amount of off campus housing at North Carolina State University is immense. From numerous campus apartments to tons of 1-4 bedroom houses. There is also a variety in price range, which is incredibly important. For those students who wish to spend more and have a spacious living environment, large houses near campus are present. However, for those who are trying to spend cautiously, affordable apartments are a very short distance from campus.

Transportation: Buses Are Great - and Free! Public transportation is very useful to students at NCSU. There are many pick-up/drop-off points, usually within a 10-minute walk of all of the main buildings on campus. Buses also run all the time, so if you need to get on one you'll only have to wait 10 or 15 minutes.

Campus Strictness: The administration at NC State means business when it comes to academics as well as behavior. Because of the prestige of the school, NC State expects students to perform at an exceptional level. As far as behavior goes, Student Conduct enforces rules with no remorse, especially when it comes to incidents involving drugs. As far as sporting events go, the city of Raleigh police work in conjunction campus police, which makes it harder for students to get away with certain actions.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: NC State Athletics have come a long way in recent years. The most dominant sport is football; the process to get a ticket for football games is purposely made difficult because of the high demand. Men's basketball is slowly trying to make a name for itself again after being in the media for negative attention. Overall, athletic events are fun to attend and the fan base at NC State is among one of the best in the nation. The phrase "Cardiac Pack" is commonly used in sporting events where the school has a lead at one point, but then tension builds towards the end of the game!

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: North Carolina State University is in the state's capital of Raleigh, making it locally available to a wide array of restaurants in the downtown area, as well as across the street. Hillsborough Street, directly across from campus features a few common places such as Chipotle and Dunkin Donuts, but also authentic places and coffee shops perfect for first dates. The downtown Raleigh area has more upscale restaurants ranging from New Orleans cajun to down-south traditions. Depending on what a student orders, the food is worth the price, along with the experience.

Overall, the students' experience with NCSU is that it provides them with a rich learning environment. Students learn to balance play and work. Some come to NC State because of family tradition, to get away from the cold, or because of the College of Engineering-but whatever the reason is for the individual, positive feedback always finds its way out. Professors at the University will go above and beyond their call of duty. You make lifelong friends, and you have a huge list of organizations to partake in. Whether you're involved in a college sport, student government, or the Agribusiness Club, you will find your niche here among the thousands of students. Some professors will take you under their wing, and you will learn enormous amounts of information from them. These professors will also become lifelong connections who will probably end up writing letters of recommendation for you when it is time for you to find a job.

NC State wants its students to succeed not only in academics, but in life, too. Here you learn important lifelong skills that are essential to your survival in the real world. Classes can be rigorous and stressful, but students find a way to overcome hardships and get through. Professors will push you to do your best, but at the same time, they understand what it was like to be a student. NC State will help you become an expert in your subject of choice, and with the large number of students, you will come out of college ready to work in some of the most diverse settings.
