4 College Freshman

Majors: This far I am pretty happy with my program. I am excited about taking more classes and with finding my place in my college. I am thinking of transferring to a slightly different program within my college. The programs are very flexible and it is an easy process to transfer.

College Freshman

Majors: I have not had an internship yet. I am really excited about this possibility and I hope to have one next summer. NCSU offers tons of opportunities for internships so I'm not really concerned about getting one but I am a little worried about the competitiveness of the students who will be applying along with me for one.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: There is a decent diversity on campus. You can always find someone you are similar to and someone who is your total opposite!

Off-Campus Dining: There are tone of options around campus that range from fast food to some of the best restaurants you will find. Cost is proportional to style of restaurants. Tons are just a short walk or ride to from campus and on campus options are awesome as well. A lot that are right around campus have some sort of advantage to students and if you like sushi you should definitely check out Sushi Tsune! It's the best!

Weather: Summer in the south is hot, humid, and can be volatile; however, NC State is well-equipped to prevent disruptions and damage, and quickly repairs any damages or messes left by the weather.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: I greatly enjoy my department. The professors and administrative staff are helpful and friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable of the program and its content and requirements.

Academics: As a graduate student, I have a significant academic workload; however, the work is so enjoyable that I hardly notice. Faculty and staff are always helpful and provide exceptional assistance.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I do not live on campus, so I am not aware of resident student use of drugs beyond passing knowledge. I am aware of significant alcohol and marijuana usage, which tends to be typical on college campuses.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Carmichael gymnasium is available to all students; while student athletes do take their training seriously, they do not co-opt the gym and prevent others' use.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The Women's Center on campus is closely involved with the campus police, especially when a sexual assault has occurred. They provide support, advocacy, and counseling for victims. The campus police take sexual assault and other crimes seriously, and provide assistance with respect.

College Sophomore

Greek Life: I am not a member of a sorority on campus; I cannot speak much about Greek life.

Local Atmosphere: NC State is located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Raleigh is a great city for students, as there are significant opportunities to enjoy the local community at low cost. The city includes several shopping centers, most accessible by city buses (which students can purchase a cheap annual pass to use) and a great variety of small restaurants and shops.

College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I live off-campus, as I am a non-traditional, independent student. I have discovered that it is more cost-effective and, for my personality, pleasant to share a house with a friend.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: I do not live on campus, so I cannot speak about leniency or strictness in student housing. However, some regulations are strictly enforced, such as the honor code and parking rules.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: I prefer having my own computer available for classwork and personal use. However, there are computer labs available throughout campus, and it is possible to use labs for projects. It is difficult, of course, during midterm and finals crunches.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I significantly enjoy studying and working at NC State. The environment is equally friendly and challenging.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: NC State is always improving with regards to diversity. It is much more difficult to stick with a group of one's complete "equals", in regards to ethnicity, religion, and sexuality, than to make friends who add their own experiences and backgrounds.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: I take the city and campus buses every day. There are many bus stops on and near campus, which makes it much easier and less expensive to take the bus each day than to pay for parking.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: The cafe-style dining at NC State is convenient and appealing. Of course, dining dollars can be used at several local cafes and restaurants; my favorite is a coffee shop across the street from DH Hill library.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: NC State has been progressively updating its campus; older buildings have been renovated for twenty-first century use, and new buildings have been specifically designed to enhance the aesthetic and practicality of the campus.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: The libraries at NC State are fantastic. The primary library, DH Hill, has been updated regularly and includes significant technological resources and an excellent collection. The new addition, James B Hunt, is above-par. Technology is emphasized, but traditional library resources are still necessary and easily available. Both include public and private study spaces and in-house support.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The typical student is pretty shy. If you want to make friends, most likely you will have t be the one who starts the conversation. Although the students are shy, they are not rude. Most students are very friendly and are looking to have a great college experience.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: The weather can effect the campus experience because most of the fun events on campus are hosted outdoors. It also make the walks to class dreadful and depressing.

4 College Sophomore

Nightlife: The nightlife is amazing. There is always something going on throughout the week and there is always a party during the weekend. The clubs are popular during special events but not on the regular basis.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: During the week if you do not have a parking pass i do not suggest to park on campus. If you time it right, there will be a lot of available parking spaces during the weekend.

Overall, the students' experience with NCSU is that it provides them with a rich learning environment. Students learn to balance play and work. Some come to NC State because of family tradition, to get away from the cold, or because of the College of Engineering-but whatever the reason is for the individual, positive feedback always finds its way out. Professors at the University will go above and beyond their call of duty. You make lifelong friends, and you have a huge list of organizations to partake in. Whether you're involved in a college sport, student government, or the Agribusiness Club, you will find your niche here among the thousands of students. Some professors will take you under their wing, and you will learn enormous amounts of information from them. These professors will also become lifelong connections who will probably end up writing letters of recommendation for you when it is time for you to find a job.

NC State wants its students to succeed not only in academics, but in life, too. Here you learn important lifelong skills that are essential to your survival in the real world. Classes can be rigorous and stressful, but students find a way to overcome hardships and get through. Professors will push you to do your best, but at the same time, they understand what it was like to be a student. NC State will help you become an expert in your subject of choice, and with the large number of students, you will come out of college ready to work in some of the most diverse settings.
