Norfolk State University offers numerous sports for men and women, including basketball, football, baseball, softball, volleyball, and even bowling. The University offers different athletic fields and facilities that allow students to practice their sports. Some facilities include the Dick Price Stadium, which is the main field that football games are played on. Joseph Echols Hall hosts the University’s most famous basketball games against rivals. Football and basketball are the two most popular sports. Generally, students get amped for games. School spirit is recognized through the club Spartan Cavalry, which gets crowds excited before and during games. Students attend games because entry is free with the presence of a student ID. When Homecoming season arrives, the University is in full gear, ready to show school spirit and support the Norfolk State Spartans football team.
Facilities like the James D. Gill Health & Physical Education Building are where intramural games are played. Some games include dodgeball and “open gym” basketball games that allow students who are not on athletic teams to partake in games for fun. Though the James D. Gill Health & Physical Education Building was the original spot for basketball games before Joseph Echols Hall was built, it is still in standing condition and is very clean.
