Off-Campus Housing: It can be difficult to find a good apartment and good roommates. The best things is to go into apartment looking with roommates in mind or with a broker.

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are so many restaurants to choose from. Whether you want a sandwich, falafel, indian, thai, vegetarian, pizza, mexican, anything you can think of is within ten mins of the campus. There are also tons of cheap places; cheap is when a meal costs less than $6 and is filling.

College Junior

Parking: This Is NYC – Public transportation is the ideal option for NYU and NYC in general. If you feeling like driving or keeping a car while living in a dorm (or in downtown Manhattan in general), plan on paying a lot for parking in a lot or spending a lot of time moving your car on street sweeping days. There is no designated NYU lot, as the campus is spread around and the MTA (and your own legs) are the best ways to travel.

4 College Junior

Computers: Always available... if you know where to find them ;)

4 College Sophomore

Majors: The course load is difficult at times but I feel they challenge you on purpose to help you grow.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: Easy and Direct – When applying for admission, you directly apply for the major you want to study and you are admitted into the school that has that major.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Very Intensive – I'm in the hospitality school and the curriculum is very thorough and intensive to prepare for the working world after graduation.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Somewhat Easy – The career development center here is very helpful for finding work or internships and have several ways for them to help every student - individually or in small groups

4 Recent Alumnus

Facilities: The main campus is beautiful, classrooms are modern and well-equiped.

Majors: Getting into the llm program is very competitive, so it is necessary to have good grades and professional experience to complement good academic performance.

Campus Housing: Mercer Residence – Mercer Residence for Law students is clean, apartments are spacious and very close to classes.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Winter = COLD – Spring and Fall are a great time to walk around the city. Winter however, could get complicated. Navigating the crowded streets on snow days can be tricky.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drugs are around and you will more than likely come across marijuana on campus. Its not imposed though, and NYU staff is pretty good at keeping the drugs under control by strict enforcement of the drug policy

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: New York City – At NYU you are IN nyc. That comes with all the city has to offer. From disco bowling, to outdoor ice skating, to movies, and the best clubs,; your covered as far as nightlife.

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Variety Is the Spice of Life – You can't find a better city for diverse and delicious eats. We've got all the way from cheap street food (good carts along W 4th) to some of the highest end joints in the states. All you have to do is walk out your door.

4 College Junior

Diversity: People from Everywhere! NYU not only accepts diverse students from across the US, but we have an incredible high percentage of international students. It's great to be around so many different perspectives.

4 College Junior

Transportation: Subway, Buses, Taxis, Your Feet – You can get anywhere in New York cheaply and quickly. The NYU campus is totally walkable and for places a little farther away, the subway will take you all the way up north. Taxis are a bit more expensive, but very safe and reliable.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Diligent Concern for Student Safety – The best service to characterize NYU's wonderful safety program is their "Safe Ride" service. Between the hours of midnight and 6:30am a van will pick you up from any NYU building and transport you where you need to go. This school really cares.

Majors: Newsroom Internship – As a journalism major, you have access to a large number of internships as the journalism career services are very active. Most likely, however, during the academic year, you won't get paid for those 12 to 20 hours of work you do. Nonetheless, most internships are pretty hands on and you are well integrated to the newsroom team, attending editorial/assignment meetings, editing some video and updating the website.

Guys & Girls: Hot If Hipsters Are Your Type – NYU is where you'll find your match is you like people who are into fashionably-unkempt fashion, vintage and indie culture, thick-rimmed glasses, asymmetrical haircuts and combat boots.

4 Recent Alumnus

Majors: Not Too Hard – Getting in the journalism department mostly entails getting through the first big lecture about the history of journalism with more than a C. Though the work load is heavy, with introductions to all the ways people choose to report stories, what makes a story and how the future is shaping up to be, you are well-accompanied. And the fact that you can only take this class as a Fall semester sophomore helps because you've spent the past year figuring out the intricacies of college work rhythms.

3 Recent Alumnus

Majors: Very Helpful Departments – Academics have rarely disappointed me in NYU classrooms, except for some gen-ed classes, but that was also due to the fact that most students didn't want to be there and that didn't foster involvement, despite teachers' efforts. In the journalism department, all professors have always been helpful and available, but the academic administration of the College of Arts and Sciences has little influence over the financial side of NYU and that can be disappointing as you come to the school to study first.

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: Had Bad Experience Transferring Dorms – I was living in my summer housing and had to make a transition to fall housing. NYU said they would notify us 24hours before the day we should move. Basically, what happened to me was that I was kicked out of my dorm, and I only had 9hours to pack up. I wasn't happy with the treatment I was getting compared to all the high tuition I was paying. The dorms are pretty okay. Not great.

5 College Senior

Weather: I've only been here for my summer classes so far...
The weather has been great! It's very sunny, and we barely have windy+rainy days..I've been hearing the four seasons are quite obvious here.

3 College Senior

Scholarships: Tuition Has Risen Each Year, but My Scholarship $ Stayed the Same – It's a very expensive school. NYU doesn't promise to meet 100% of your need and hasn't raised my award in 4 years, although the tuition, room and board have all gone up considerably.

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
