Overall Experience: The experience at my drama studio that is affliated with NYU is amazing! I have taken some good classes through the univeristy, mainly the Tisch topics courses where I got to travel to South Africa and Turkey. The teachers are great, but dealing with places like the bursar and registrar and financial aid are a huge pain is the ass because of the amount of students so they really don't seem to care about individuals.

Diversity: You can find someone from just about anywhere in the world at this school. It is culturaly, religiously, ethnically diverse. There are more girls than guys though.

4 College Senior

Transportation: The subway is a great way to get pretty much anywhere. If a subway doesn't go there, there is probably a bus. There are also cabs if you feel like paying for them. The major downfall is the price of any form of transportation outside of walking.

5 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: Its New York. There is something for everyone. Theatre, Music, Sports, Comedy, or just walking around. The only downfall is not much nature.

4 College Senior

Computers: Never Really Use – There a quite a few labs around with internet access and printing. I never really use them unless I happen to be hanging around an area for a bit and want to quickly check my email. And the printing is good if I ever have to print out a lot of stuff. They have a 500 page limit now before we start having to pay, which I've never gone over but I know some people that have. The main free printing lab is eally crowded if you go at the wrong time but sometimes it is realatively empty.

Guys & Girls: Lots of People Most Are Really Nice – I dont really know what to say except there are tons of activities/places to meet people and most people are nice.

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Great! Tons of Options – There are so many places nearby that are really good! You can find cheap everyday places and some that are a little more but well worth it. NYC has amazing restaurants so it is worth exploring a bit and trying new places often.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Meal Plans Are Worth It, Food Is Not Great – Meal plans are great. There are a number of dining halls with a lot of different options and they are all you can eat! Food is not great but you should be able to find something you like. They are also vegan/vegetarian options and a kosher dining hall. Dining dollars can be used at the dining halls for convenience-store-like products. Prices are probably higher than at other places though.

Parking: A Non-Issue for Most Students – Most students live on campus or nearby so very few people use parking/drive. I guess there are places to park but its Manhattan so its probably expensive and hard to get a spot. There is really no need for a car, public transportation is great.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Sports Are Not a Big Deal but Good Facilities – The NYU sports teams are not a big deal and neither are sporting events. From my understanding that is intentional. The facilities are really good. There are two gyms very near NYU housing and classrooms (Palladium and Coles).

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Its Not Bad, Rain and Snow Can Be a Hassle – Fall starts off hot but it gets cold, rainy and windy. Winter can be a pain and a bit long but not as bad as other places. The bad thing is walking and using public transportation can get tricky with snow and rain. Buy some boots and a good umbrella.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Varies a Lot – Depends on your dorm, your RA's, your professors, your advisors etc etc. You hear stories of people that get away with a lot and stories of people that get punished for silly things. In my experience, I think its ok.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Lots of Options and Pretty Good Overall – There are a number of options both in terms of pricing and preferences. Location and amenities are amazing! For freshmen Weinstein and Founders are probably the best but not cheap for what you're getting. Upperclassmen Palladium and Grammercy are the best. Grammercy is a lot nicer but also far from campus.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: Living in New York, there a practically limitless possibilities. You learn from your school, you learn from your city.

5 College Sophomore

Diversity: Tons of People from Everywhere. There are tons of people from everywhere. There is every kind of person you could ever intend on meeting.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Decent, Nothing Special, Overpriced. The food can be good, is always edible, and is convenient, but is overpriced. Students are referred to as "customers," further making you feel like they only care about your money.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: City of Walkers – You pretty much walk everywhere. It's a far walk to class from most of the dorms too. The subway is also used a lot but can be a scary place at night. Cabs are the best option but they are really expensive. You can get anywhere easily with time and money.

Nightlife: Wild Night Life. Going to sleep at 5 am is pretty typical. The bars and clubs are where all night life happens. Even greek life holds parties at the bars and lounges. Don't expect a keg or house party. You need a fake ID for sure. Apartement parties are rare but they are small when they do happen.

1 College Sophomore

Athletics: There are very few athletic events at NYU and even less students participating in them. The hipsters at NYU would never attend a sporting event. There is absolutely NO school spirit or tradition.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: Utopia Academica Americana – sprawling library, maintained general campus, gardening and architecture, work-out and student centers above and beyond adequate

Parking: There is very rarely any parking. And if you can find any, you usually have to pay for it.

Off-Campus Housing: While a New York City apartment offers unparalleled convenience in terms of proximity to night life and grocery stores, etc, the cost of living is outrageous and a lot of what is available for a reasonable price is either way outside of the city or the size of a shoe box. You have to really dig in order to find a good deal.

Academics: The Life of an Over-Worked, Over-Joyed, Theatre Geek – As a musical theatre major at NYU, I have been given unparalleled opportunities. New York City has the resources to help you accomplish your wildest dreams, and while the work is challenging, the competition fierce, and the future uncertain, there is no greater affirmation of your talent than finding success in this program. This school has dozens of performance opportunities, hundreds of fellow students to work off of, and some of the finest professors in the world who have been in the business for years and are willing to bend over backwards to ensure you get the best possible education. If you can capitalize on these opportunities, there is no finer education anywhere for an aspiring actor.

Health & Safety: Personal Safety – NYU is very good with safety; there are security guards hired at every NYU building who checks that all who enter have an NYU ID. If someone is not carrying one, they will ask the visitor to sign in and give a valid form of identification to the security desk. The security desk will keep it with them until the visitor signs out, thus ensuring that there are no strangers running loose on campus.

3 College Student

Computers: The Lack the Ability to Compute Flawlessly. The computers at my school do not contain the correct processing feeds to run without headache and stress. The Internet works at its own right, leaving the user dumbfounded to gather any kind of information. A change must be done to these machines

NYU offers students a taste of the hustle and bustle they will most likely encounter in the real world once they graduate. It is an overpopulated institution, so you have to be ready to fight to gain certain academic opportunities, but cultivating such a habit may serve as indirect training for new graduates when they have to go about securing jobs in their respective fields. Life at NYU demands a certain kind of disposition; thus, it is not for everyone. For students who love NYC and the challenge and experience it offers, it is an exciting and ever-changing community. For those who desire a community-rich college experience, NYU is lacking in that area. However, you can make an amazing experience out of what the school does offer. Whatever your choice, get ready for a mix of demanding academics and wild experiences in the city. Finding a balance between the two is key at this big-city school.

Many students claim that the best part about attending NYU is living in New York City, while other students complain about the school's large tuition. Most often, students are dissatisfied with the lack of a campus or school spirit, and many students believe that the institution is run too much like a business, with the school using millions of dollars to make NYU a global institution instead of supporting its current students. Otherwise, most students appreciate the various benefits of living in the city, such as diverse and exciting nightlife options, a broad range of cuisines, and prestigious and diverse internship opportunities.
