Off-Campus Housing: I live off campus with my parents about 20 mins from school so I am not sure how on or off-campus housing work. I do know that on-campus housing is average the rooms are kind of small (but what dorms aren't) and the application process isn't as long.

Off-Campus Housing: I would prefer to live off-campus in University Centre or the Society Hill, since I feel locked up within this college.

3 College Student

Off-Campus Housing: U.C. is the only place

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I'm not too aware of the housing opportunities off-campus, but from what I heard is that they are slightly cheaper than dorming. I love living on-campus, but off-campus housing is a possibility that I will consider in the future.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Will be living off campus housing next semester. Conveniently located across the street from the campus. Prices are very affordable and may even be cheaper when rooming with two other people.

At NJIT, the only off-campus housing that can be considered safe is several miles away. This is because the area immediately surrounding NJIT is known for project housing and robberies; safer housing would be located far enough to avoid these areas. So if you decide to live off-campus in a secure area, there will be a slight commute to NJIT. If a student wishes to seek off-campus housing and doesn't want to live near a subway entrance, he or she is going to need a car.

Students sometimes do not even feel safe living in on-campus housing, so few dare to seek off-campus housing. However, if any off-campus housing is available, it is usually a short drive back to campus, so proximity is not a concern. It is also generally the same price as on-campus housing, depending on the housing unit.

Did You Know?
With four on-campus residences, housing scholarships, and a high local crime rate, it is rare to see an NJIT student living off campus. If more than one student lives off campus, it's a shock.
