Overall Experience: I feel like I am certainly getting my money's worth out of the Visual Communications department at NSCC. I have had many questions and needed help. Never once did I email a teacher and didn't get a response shortly afterwards. These instructors care about their students and want to help anyway they can. They are fare and treat each student with respect.

Academic Experience: Teachers within the Visual Communications department are great. Classes are a limited in the summer. Specific classes are only offered fall semester and others only offered spring semester. If a course only offered in the fall is skipped, it will cause a delay in graduating on time.

Academic Flexibility: I have enjoyed learning from every instructor I have had. It has been a wonderful experience so far.

Overall Experience: If I had the financial means to attend a university as oppose to a community college, I would definitely opt to go that route.

3 College Sophomore

Academic Flexibility: My only major frustration is the lack of quality professors. As stated previously, I have had a few professors that were great and extremely helpful. The majority however have seemed inadequate and like they did not genuinely care.

College Sophomore

Academic Experience: I am starting the nursing program this fall meaning I have yet to fully experience the variety of aspects to the program.

3 College Sophomore

Academic Experience: I think it would be really great if there was physical education courses offered. Especially in the south where obesity is such an issue, we should be encouraging increased activity and promoting healthy lifestyles! I would also like to see more psychology courses offered and women studies options.

Student Body: While there are definitely students who are there to learn and improve their level of education and themselves as individuals, I feel there is a large amount of individuals who are there simply because they have to be and don't genuinely care. There are also several individuals that go only to get financial assistance and have the mindset that as long as they pass, who cares because they will still get the money.

It is important to note that every student's college experience will differ from others in some fashion. However, Nashville State has worked with the Tennessee Board of Regents in creating the Tennessee Transfer Path. This project was to ensure that every student who graduates with an associate degree from NSCC will find the transfer process to state schools fairly easy, as all classes taken at NSCC should transfer to other Tennessee Board of Regents schools. In this respect, all NSCC students transfering to a TBR school will find that their experience in earning tranferable credits was quite similar. Nashville State professors try to prepare students for the next journey in academia to the best of their ability, and students report that their overall experience was very positive. However, advisers at this institution should inform future graduate students who wish  to transfer to a larger university that they should research and visit larger colleges to reduce the culture shock that comes with transfer process.

Students graduating from Nashville State Community College will find that what they miss the most will be the intellectual conversations and experiences they shared with their peers and professors. The personal environment that is nurtered at NSCC will have a lasting impact on students who tranfer to larger university settings. Alumni often stay in touch with professors who had the greatest impact on them and who were willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to help. The overall experience at this institution should be very positive for those students who wish to work hard and participate in academia.
