For being a small town, Mount Vernon has a plethora of options for dining. Most restaurants can be found near the front gate of MVNU's campus on Newark Road or on Coshocton Avenue near Kroger and Walmart. The town has the typical fast food restaurants, such as Taco Bell, McDonald's, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Arby's, and Wendy's. There is, in fact, a McDonald's located near the front gate of MVNU's campus, as well as one located on Coshocton Avenue, closer to Walmart. Students also joke around about the three separate Subways in Mount Vernon: two right by Walmart and one closer to the front of campus on Newark Road.
Students can be found making quick fast food runs before curfew since Taco Bell and McDonald's leave their drive-thru open until 2 a.m. or later. Sit-down restaurants like Jake's, Bob Evans, and Allison's Finer Diner are the more common choices, especially when parents are visiting. Tim Hortons is a common place for students to take a study break in the evening, while Cold Stone Creamery is attached and a common place for desserts. The one place that students definitely rave about, though, is the Chipotle, which gets plenty of business from people of all ages.
