3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: the dorms are nice and spacious but they are old. They are out dated and the wifi never works. The rules are unbelivable and the punishments are harsh.

2 College Freshman

Greek Life: Our Greek life is based on GPA in your major. Its not the traditional Greek life and the professors nominate you to be involved.

1 College Freshman

Nightlife: what nightlife? If you are looking for something to do its either homework, tv or play cards. If you want something more exciting then go to the nearby college campus.

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The university is strict about things college kids like to do. The dorms are the strictest part of campus. The rules are insane and sometimes uncalled for.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: there is a shuttle to transport kids to the art and nursing buildings off campus. Everything else requires a car.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Alot of places in town give discounts to students and the food is good. There is mostly fast food but there are few nice resturants

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: There is hardly ever drug use on campus. There is strict policy and most kids abide by the ploicy. Its seldom for even alcohol to be present.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Im not really a sports person. I dont play and I dont attend either. Most of the fans are parents, boy/girlfriends or relatives of the athletes

4 College Freshman

Diversity: Its a Christian campus so people are accepting to a point. There has been alot of upheval surrounding the homosexual students or students who arent strictly Christian.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: The kids are pretty relaxed in terms of clothing, There is alot of intermingling of the sexes and alot of relationships that come out of it. There is also quite a bit of drama as well

5 College Freshman

Academics: I love my University. It has small classes so the professors can interact with you. The professors are generally approachable and easy to work with. The curriculum isnt too hard of an adjustment. It depends on your major, but most of the work load is just time consuming. Classes arent hard, per say, but you do need to focus and manage your time well to be successful.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Its a small town with nothing to do off campus unless you want to drive 30 minutes to the closest mall. There isnt much to do on campus either.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: The health center is usually open or someone is on call. It can only help with little things like colds, minor cuts, minor aches. If you have an infection you should see a doctor.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I would apply early and make sure you have the time to sit through the whole process. its easier to do it in one sitting. Also have patience and all of the FASFA completed.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: Unless you are going downtown for classes, there is no reason for transportation

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: There are many clean girls and guys on campus, and is a great place to find a level-headed, faith-driven, and good looking partner.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The housing is old, but adequate. The dorm rooms are a good size and have sinks in the rooms.

College Sophomore

Scholarships: I received some aid and scholarships, but I am not eligible for the aid I need.

College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing is only available to married couples or commuters.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: The campus shuttle downtown is free. Otherwise, one must have a bicycle, car, or walk. Most use cars

College Sophomore

Drug Safety: It is against policy to use drugs or alcohol. It still goes on, and not everyone gets caught, but it is not something people are open about on campus.

College Sophomore

Greek Life: There is no known Greek like at this University.

College Sophomore

Nightlife: It is against the lifestyle guidelines to engage in parties with drugs and alcohol or to go to clubs, so parties consist of a different, more healthy kind of fun.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The campus feels very safe. Dorms require an ID to get in. There is some crime that goes on in the town of Mount Vernon, but the college does a lot to keep its students safe.

2 College Sophomore

Weather: It is cold for most of the academic year, and very cold in the winter. There are seasons, but winter is a bit longer than the rest. Prepare for snow.

Mount Vernon Nazarene University is a great school that could be better with a few changes (adjusting the curfews, having better cafeteria food, and having more on-campus events and activities). However, if given the opportunity, most students would probably still choose MVNU all over again. The education students receive not only delves deep into the heart of the subjects, but the Nazarene emphasis of the school also brings ministry into the classes.

The issues discussed in the courses, whether they relate to Christianity or not, can be related to what is taught in class and the professors show the relation between the two. Not only does it help students learn things about their future careers, but it also provides them with a greater purpose of how to turn their work field into a better mission field. Through their time at MVNU, students will make friendships that last a lifetime, experience memories to cherish for years to come, and at least begin to understand how God wants to use them for His kingdom.
