Computers: Lots of computers available in the labs but wifi is somewhat undependable

Computers: We have computers on campus; however, sometimes we do not have enough computers in the labs for all students in a class to use.

Computers: Printers Work....Sometimes – Wireless works great in most common areas of campus. Labs in the library and Belk Center make it easy to access computers without a laptop. Only problem is, sometimes you have to try all three labs before you can get something to print, and even then you may end up out of luck.

Computers: Not the Greatest, but It Could Be Worse – Montreat has three computer labs, but two of them close at 11 p.m., and the 24-hour-lab is really unreliable. The printers are also really unreliable; you're never guaranteed to be able to print anything out. There is good wireless coverage, however, and it's pretty fast.

Computers: Montreat College is working on putting wireless in the dorms this summer. There are computer labs spread out throughout the campus and we get around 100-150 pages to print during the semester.

Many professors at Montreat incorporate Moodle, an online learning system, and require multiple papers throughout the semester. Some classes also require blogs, use of Finale (a music program), or other assignments on the computer. Because of the prevalence of computer-related assignments, students coming to Montreat will definitely need access to a computer and Wi-Fi. There are three main computer labs: two in Belk Campus Center and one in the library. All three are equipped with printers of varying reliability. Many of the campus computers are unreliable and run outdated software, but students can generally find one that works, especially on the third floor in Belk.

Many students bring their own computers, both because of the campus computers’ capriciousness and to allow more freedom. Since Wi-Fi is available widely on campus, it’s easy to write papers over lunch in the cafeteria. There is a small Mac lab in Gaither Chapel that is mainly used for music and Spanish classes, as well as some other art and communication courses. These are some of the only computers with programs such as Finale and other class-required software, so students in those classes will spend a lot of time there. The lab is generally locked but is next to the music faculty offices, so it’s relatively easy to get access during the day. All in all, you can generally access a working computer and printer if you leave yourself a little time to check the labs—so don’t put off printing your paper until five minutes before class.
