There is always something going on around town, whether it is a concert, a theme party (`80s theme parties run rampant here), or a midnight hike up to the "M." The bars are a great place to scope out attractive Bozemanites and MSU students, and clubs such as The Zebra offer great musical entertainment most of the time. Do not expect the Bozeman party and club scene to be on the same level as a big city, though.
Montanans love to drink, and Bozeman boasts bars for all types of barhoppers. For the poor college student just looking for some alcohol and a pool table, a bar such as The American Legion is a safe bet. Any student who just got a fat paycheck may feel like splurging, in which case Plonk is a good choice. For those under 21 who want to try out the bar scene, make sure that fake ID is a good one; bars card here, for the most part, and won't accept a cheap Xerox of your older brother's license. Anyone trying to avoid alcohol can find solace in coffee shops around town where some decent musicians play. Spend a couple of bucks on a hot chocolate, and you can have free entertainment for hours. The Zebra, an 18-and-over club, is a great place to hear some of Bozeman's top bands and even some nationally-known groups. MSU tries to provide alcohol-free ways to have fun, including some good comedians. Climbing up to the "M" on the Bridgers offers a spectacular view of the city at night and is popular, especially with freshmen.
