Going out on the weekends is definitely something students at Misericordia look forward to. Since there is only one decent student bar near campus, students have to drive 20 minutes to access the popular bars in downtown Wilkes-Barre. The Public Square has two of the hottest spots, and the nice part is that the bars are within walking distance from each other—actually, they're right next door. Students choose to go to Rodano's or the Hardware bar because of the cheap drink specials. Metro is only a five-minute drive from campus, and most students go there for the close proximity, but the drinks are known to be expensive after happy hour.
Students that are under 21 literally have to make up their own fun at Misericordia. Parties are hardly ever thrown because both on-campus and off-campus parties get busted. Uh-oh. Usually, the under-21 crowd hits up the movies or just hangs out with friends. Underagers are even known for trying to get upperclassmen to buy alcohol for them; if they drink quietly in the dorms, they most likely won't get caught. If the rare house party is thrown, underagers are encouraged not to attend, just because the police will probably show up. Rumor has it that in 2009, a house party was about to be busted, and some sophomore jumped off a balcony onto a concrete sidewalk because she was under 21 and didn't want to get caught. Luckily, the party didn't get busted, but she did end up with a broken back.
