4 College Freshman

Facilities: As stated earlier, everybody works together to complete goals. It is amazing how the student life on Misericordia campus is so friendly and willing to be helpful in ways that do not benefit themselves.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: There are a wide range of clubs and activities available for students that work together, even if they are not alike. This ties in with the values of Misericordia students. I have met so many people with great values that are so accepting and kind. I thought it was amazing how everybody works together to help one another through clubs whether it is partaking in activities together or helping another to fund an event that they are having.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: The library is my favorite place on campus! It's why I chose Misericordia! So beautiful and plenty of quiet places.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: I will highlight the commuter lounge here. It is a great place for commuters to go in between classes to rest, study, and hang out with friends. We need more seating and tables!!! It is so popular that people frequently have to sit on the floor or on arms of chairs. If people read this please look into this!!!

Facilities at Misericordia are all up-to-date and aesthetically pleasing to students. The school is always renovating, and most of the buildings on campus go through renovations every summer before the fall semester. Generally, the campus is always clean and well-kept. Both the Banks Student Life Center and the athletics center have been fully renovated, so students can enjoy flat-screen TVs, modern furniture, and new workout equipment. The campus updates just about every aspect of student life, so students really don't have complaints about facilities. The library is the best place to go for students who are studying, writing a paper, or even just wanting to relax in a quiet environment. There is a helpful staff in the library at all times, and the library computers are always being updated. The library doesn't have a huge book selection, but there are always new issues of the New York Times, Cosmo, Vanity Fair, and Time Magazine. The movie selection at the library is huge, though. Students can rent old seasons of shows like "Full House," "Lost," or "Seinfeld," or even newer movies, as well.

There are always new activities being offered for students; whether it's rock climbing night or student karaoke game shows, students always find a way to have fun. Many students complain that there really isn't anything exciting to do on campus, but the Office of Student Activities is always trying to improve and take suggestions from other students as to what activities interest them. There is usually something for students to attend every day.

"Green" Initiatives
Going green is a main priority. There are several student-run groups, such as Cougars for Change, that are always trying to apply green initiatives to campus living. All of the food facilities have applied going green to campus; in order to save water, there are no trays in the Metz Dining Hall. There are also eco-friendly paper products offered in the Cougar's Den and InterMetzo Café. The school has also implemented printing "double-sided" to save paper.
School Slang
  • The Dungeon : Term used by communications students for the lower Munson level of McAuley Hall. Cougar Cast, the Misericordia student-run television station, is located here.
  • MAC: Misericordia Activities Committee
  • Mez: A level in McAuley Hall that hardly anyone knows about nor enters. There are only five rooms on this level, containing all offices and one communications computer lab.
  • NEPA: Short for "Northeastern PA"
  • SGA: Student Government Association
Traditions
  • Homecoming Talent Show: The biggest event during Homecoming weekend is the annual talent show. The talent show usually lasts two hours, with more than 20 acts performing. Generally, it's a night full of laughter. It's a Misericordia tradition for a group of guys on campus to do a tribute to boy bands/"Evolution of Dance." This is definitely the performance to which most students look forward.
  • Midnight Breakfast: Midnight Breakfast is hosted by the Office of Student Activities every semester. It's held the week before finals so that students have a chance to take a break from studying. Midnight Breakfast is served by Misericordia staff and student athletes. The line to get into breakfast is always out the door. Most of the resident students gather to go to this event.
  • Slip n' Slide on McHale Hall Lawn: A giant Slip n' Slide event is planned by the swim team. It happens during the first week of school and gives freshmen the chance to bond with upperclassmen and just have fun. This event always has a big turnout.
  • Snowball: Snowball is a popular formal in February that most students attend. It's held at the Woodlands Inn, an off-campus upscale hotel and dance club. Students dress up, eat great food, drink (if 21), and dance until it comes to an end at 2 a.m. The students that don't go to Snowball always come to the after-parties. No matter what year students are, everyone bonds during Snowball.
Favorite Things To Do
Finding fun at Misericordia isn't hard. Students just have to go into the Banks Student Life Center, where most student activities take place. The center includes a pool table, foosball table, a number of flat-screen TVs, and a Wii system with different games that students can rent. Students can also rent movies from Student Activities or the library. When the weather is nice, students go outside and play pickup games of volleyball, basketball, or tennis. Students also like to relax by the fireplace in the Cougar's Den with friends.

Clubs and Organizations on Campus
The only way to truly get involved at Misericordia is through clubs and organizations. Most students join some type of club, from Ultimate Frisbee to Colleges Against Cancer. During the week, clubs and organizations offer activities like movie nights and pizza parties. Some of the most active clubs and organizations on campus include Cougars for Change, The Highlander student newspaper, Colleges Against Cancer, Misericordia Activities Committee (MAC), and Student Government. Starting a new club takes time, but if a student presents it to the Student Government, gets a professor to advise the group, finds other students interested, and fills out the proper paperwork, the club will be up and running in no time.

Did You Know?
  • Beyond Harmony, Misericordia's female student a cappella club, entered a national contest to be in a Straight No Chaser music video. The girls entered their version of "Sweet Dreams" and got to perform with Straight No Chaser at a local concert.
  • Students who are having problems in class can go to the Student Success Center, a tutoring center in Alumnae Hall, for help at any time during the day. The SSC will provide students with a student tutor and copies of the tutor's notes for extra help in classes.
  • What's one thing Misericordia shares with its campus? Cemeteries. Not one cemetery, but three! No matter where students are standing on campus, they can probably see a cemetery in the distance.
