4 College Junior

Drug Safety: I have not encountered any issues while attending.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: It's okay, it could be a lot worse. Although there is a really bad drug going around Mankato right now that they believe is a synthetic LSD

3 College Student

Drug Safety: Mankato is known as a party school, but you don't have to make it that way if you don't want to. You won't see intoxicated people during the day but weekends are lively with parties.

5 College Junior

Drug Safety: They make it easy to stay clean/sober

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I don't go out drinking or doing drugs. I don't party much. I really don't know how easy it is to get drugs or alcohol seeing as I don't really drink or do drugs.

To put it plain and simple, MSU is known as a party school, but both the University and local law enforcement are cracking down on parties and underage drinking, especially after a few alcohol-related deaths a few years ago. Due to the overuse of alcohol, MSU officials have even created an alcohol policy that includes punishment for violations related to off-campus drinking, in addition to the fines you would get from the police. Another prevalent drug on campus is marijuana. You can sometimes smell it on the person who randomly sits next to you in class, but overall, that part of the drug scene is kept much more quiet.

No matter what class year you're in or where you are on campus, you will almost always hear someone talking about a party that happened the night before or one that is going to happen that weekend. But while partying and drinking are big things on this campus, most students do respect the wishes of people who do not wish to partake. So do not let the party reputation keep you from coming to this school or, on the flip side, do not let it be the only reason you attend. There is so much more to do here on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights than party!
