There are two cafeterias on campus, Gage and Carkoski (Carko), which are very different. While the options are similar, Carkoski’s food and service is higher quality. The cafeterias are always trying to improve the food by hosting focus groups and offering student comment cards, where students can request different meals. Without student input, the menu becomes redundant, and some students find that after awhile of eating in the cafeteria, they cannot stomach the food anymore. Luckily, there are other options besides the cafeterias. The Centennial Student Union (CSU) has a Taco Bell, Chick-fil-A, Jazzman's Café, and a handful of other venues. There are also vending machines all around campus with snacks and sometimes even sandwiches.
Advice to incoming freshmen is to get the Maverick 160 meal plan. It allows 160 meals per semester that can also be transferred over to Flex Dollars, which is money students can use at different locations on campus, such as the CSU, at a rate of $5 for every one meal. This helps a lot when the food in the cafeteria becomes unappealing. Overall, the food here is a decent but very redundant; however, it is a much improved step up from high school food.
