Off-Campus Dining: There's not many that we have near us, but of what we do have it is very convenient.

4 College Freshman

Majors: The only difficulty I encountered and would have to overcome is all of the science classes! And it would be best to look over things about your major before you make your decision, so you would not have any changes because you end up not liking it. Other than that, it's great.

College Freshman

Majors: I say this because I am just starting school, so I haven't decided or looked into any programs yet or known of any.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Our campus is big, so I know it wouldn't be perfectly clean but for the most part it's better than i thought it would be seeing how big the campus is.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: It's really a diverse setting so I could not decide. but for the most part everyone dressed appropriate and are very active in joining programs, clubs, and community service.

Academics: Middle Tennessee State University is one of the biggest schools in Tennessee for many reasons. The quality of education for the reasonable tuition cost is one of the most inviting things about the school to students. With some of the best programs in the state, including: aviation, nursing, education and arts, MTSU provides a variety of degrees and programs to help make the best out of the student that it can. The workload is as much as the student makes it. When a student uses their time wisely, the workload is tolerable. Students do better in their classes when their priority is their schoolwork and they give their best effort. Depending on the program, MTSU has some of the best professors that anyone can get. Although some of their ratings may be worth it, the professor and the class is as great as the student makes it.

Academics: Although I have not began the nursing program yet, I have only heard good things from the other students. The nursing program is one of the toughest majors that a student can be in. The curriculum is focused on visual learning and a lot of reading, but also many practice activities and hands-on work. Advisors of the nursing program try to keep the students best interest in mind and want them to get through the program and make the best nurses out of them. Nursing students do their clinical internships at the nearby hospitals. Many of them go to Saint Thomas Rutherford to do their internship and many others go on to be certified nurse techs as they are trying to earn their degree and practice nursing.

Campus Housing: Most students complain about having to live in campus their freshman year because unless they are within a certain radius of the campus to commute, it is recommended that they live on campus. The dorms at MTSU are not of the best quality in the state, but it does provide an incredible experience. For some, it is a convenience to live on campus, but to others, especially to the ones who work or get late night cravings, it is not the best option. On the bright side, living on campus allows the students to be able to sleep in later instead of having to worry about waking up early enough to get ready and get to class on time. The cost of living on campus though is more expensive than living in an apartment or renting a house, which is one of the main reasons why it is not very desirable to live on campus.

Campus Dining: The food on campus at MTSU is descent. After eating the food everyday for a year, there does not ever seem to be enough options. Most of the time, the lunches seem really greasy and there does not seem to be many healthy options. The most healthy options on campus are at the stores on campus and the Happy Tomato. There is also a Dining Hall but many students claim that it is expensive without a meal plan. A meal plan is the best way to go when eating on campus daily. Many times the cashiers have trouble with their credit and debit card machines and so people with the flex dollars and meal plans do not have trouble. When someone pays with cash it is even faster, although, many college students do not carry around ample amounts of cash on them all of the time. Some of the best food options are in the Student Union Building. In this building there is: Happy Tomato, which includes a salad and potato bar and a wrap station, Panda Express, Popeyes and a Mexican food restaurant. The Blue Raider Grill is also located in the Student Union Building. This is the hot spot when the weather gets chilly because it is a place that the students prefer and has descent warm food.

Off-Campus Housing: Like many places and big cities, Murfreesboro has the understated safe part of town and stay away from part of town. Because of the ample amount of people that live all around this city, the safety is not the best, the crime rates are pretty high and the price of living is expensive no matter where someone goes. Apartment options are always open for anyone in Murfreesboro; however, the amount of space that someone gets and the quality of living is all paid for in the price. On most of the apartment and house listings, there is also a list of nearby places such as schools, daycares, job options, closest emergency departments and more. The listings are usually very informational and the pictures included in the listings are usually right on. Some of the listings seem to be greater than they really are because that is how owners and companies try to get their customers and buyers. When renting a place, there is always expected to be some adjustments, problems and issues but most of the places try to provide the quickest and best maintenance that they can to make it up to the customer and give them more bang for their buck.

Greek Life: As on many campuses, Greek life is very glamorized at the school. Many students understand that Greek Life does many great things throughout the community and most students try to help support the cause that the fraternity or sorority is trying to spread awareness about. Non- Greek students feel like they are individuals within the school. While many students may have their own little group or club that they belong to, the most accepting ones are of Greek Life. Not to say that there is anything wrong with that but sometimes the clubs can give the impression that they are the most important, although that is not what they are trying to say at all. Becoming a part of Greek Life is a choice and if that is what someone feels like they should do, then by all means, they should; however, many students feel the pressure to join a group and it should not be that way either. Going into college for the first time, every student needs to try to find their niche within the school and plug in, but there should not be so much pressure to do it right away. The things that Greek Life and clubs and organizations can do does great things for the school and the community, but it should not be so forced onto the student body. Greek life is not deprived of their living either. At MTSU, some of the most beautiful buildings and pieces of architecture are what the fraternities and sororities live in.

Diversity: MTSU is an extremely diverse campus. Everyone seems to get along with everyone else without culture, ethnic background or religion getting in the way. Many students are open to accepting others for who they are without trying to change them. On any college campus there is always gonna be some debate over politics and religion but there is not any dominating group over another. The campus is not perfect in any way at all, but it does give students the privilege to express themselves however they want and feel without being looked down upon.

Off-Campus Dining: Murfreesboro is filled with restaurants that appeal to college students. Hooters, Buffalo Wild Wings, Olive Garden, and other options to fill the stomachs of hungry college kids. The city has a variety of food styles. Not only are there plenty of fast-food restaurants to help a college kid save a dollar, but there are also places where a student can go eat somewhere descent without having to break the bank; however, the options are always there for anyone who is in the mood for some pricy, higher-end food, such as a steak or lobster. Many of the local restaurants try to cut the college students a little bit of slack by offering student discounts on certain nights of the week.

Facilities: Middle Tennessee State University is always filled with something for the students and faculty to participate in. Greek Life is very active on campus and is always providing opportunities for students to be active on campus. The campus has two sides to it, the new and the old. Most of the major study spots for students are new and contemporary, making the campus feel very clean and relaxing to the students. Some of these study spots are the four-story library, including a Starbucks, many computer labs and study rooms and about every book a college student could need and desire. Other study places on campus are the Student Union Building, which includes a bookstore and four or five food options to have while socializing and studying with friends. Murfreesboro is a very flat city, which makes the walk on campus clear-cut and leisurely. Although the campus lacks hills and definitions in landscape, the campus makes up for it with ample amounts of green spaces and many spots for students to be able to claim a "study tree."

Local Atmosphere: Murfreesboro is a city that is always full of life. Not only is it a city where there is always something to do, but at about every corner that a person can turn, there is some kind of shopping center. This city is packed with many popular restaurants and hang-out spots, including: Hooters, Toots, Jim 'n Nicks Barbecue, The Boulevard Bar and Grill, Buffalo Wild Wings and many other popular places to eat. There are places to shop all throughout the city; however, Murfreesboro contains two very important shopping locations. These shopping spots are The Avenue, which is an outlet mall with many stores that college students love, and Stones River Mall. Both of these locations are very important to college students, providing them with shopping, jobs and somewhere to go when they get bored and do not mind spending money. On the outskirts of the city of Murfreesboro is an ample amount of farmland, when an escape from the city life is needed. Also, Murfreesboro is surrounded by many other attractive cities including: Nashville, Franklin, Mount Juliet, Lebanon and many other cities that attract college students.

Overall Experience: For the most part I have continued to have good experiences with the courses I have taken and the professors that have taught those classes. There has only been one class that I took that I feel was a complete waste of my time and only this one professor who I felt didn't have any interest in her students. As far as course quality, variety of courses offered, and class style and sizes I have been satisfied with MTSU.

3 College Senior

Overall Experience: I believe that overall student achievement and career prospect are of great value on this campus I do believe there could be some improvements in the areas of academic advising and career development. I have been on campus for almost five years and have just recently discovered the career development center and I was told that it is the most under utilized resource offered to students and unfortunately I believe it is because students are not aware of these resources and are not advised to take advantage the knowledge and experience the staff and faculty involved.

Academics: MTSU offers a wide variety of academic curriculum which prepares the student to meet real world demand and professional standards required in the workplace and/or grad school. In my experience the professors are helpful and take an interest in guiding their students to the best of their ability. The registration process is fairly easy with the guidance of a helpful student adviser to point you in the right direction. The campus offers a variety of study areas for students. From the grassy knolls to the library students can always find a study area suited for their needs.

College Senior

Academics: Currently I am in the process of changing my major, so it is hard to give a fair reflection of a specific major or degree program, but I can say that through out my studies I have felt like classes, workload and curriculum are fair and challenging.

College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: I do not live near campus. I commute to school and I cannot give a fair rating of the offered off campus housing.

4 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: Middle Tennessee is a great location and is full of a diverse population. Middle Tennessee offers many great attractions and job opportunities.

Greek Life: The greeks provide many great services on and off campus

4 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: There are many restaurants, including Mellow Mushroom, Taco Bell, Starbucks, and many more.

Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Not everyone is keen on the town of Murfreesboro, but almost everyone loves MTSU—it's a safe and rewarding environment. One key to a stress-free experience here is to plan ahead so you're not running late for class all the time. Stress can be tough, and a few stitches in time can help you avoid a lot of headaches. Once students graduate, many seem to leave with a bigger impression of the people who helped them learn, rather than the actual material they studied. Lots of students also comment that they have made great friends at MTSU and are grateful for the experience and opportunities. There is something for everyone in Murfreesboro, and if you make an effort to look around the corner, you may find the solution to a problem you didn't even know you had. The outdoor environment around MTSU is personally rewarding. There are local parks everywhere and major state parks as close as a 30-minute drive in any direction. Anyone who chooses to become active in outdoor pursuits will not be let down. Between the inspiring Tennessee landscape and the technical and logistical assistance from MTSU, an outdoor enthusiast can enjoy wonderful experiences here.

Remember: If you ever need help while you're here, all you have to do is ask. The faculty and staff at MTSU want nothing more than to see you succeed. Your success reflects upon them and enforces their purpose in teaching. Your teachers can also be your best networking tool when it comes time to look for a job or internship, so when you find professors you like, take other classes with them, and really get to know them—you can go far.
