Transportation: If you're a commuter, you're going to have a lot of costs in gas and parking. For people who live close to the campus or at the dorms, you rarely will need to use your car or public transportation as you can walk to most places easily. The only exception would be a stormy or snowy day where it may be more dangerous or difficult to get to the places you wish to go.

Overall Experience: Michigan Tech offers a unique and fun experience. Being a smaller town, you get to know and see more of your students and faculty. Michigan Tech offers solid teaching, and lots of experience within research and development if you choose to do so.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: No one has pressured me, and from what I've seen and heard, people do it willingly. If you don't want to do any drugs, you can be at ease knowing you won't have to worry about being pressured to do them.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Financial aid is helpful and makes sure you get the aid you need; however, some things are unclear such as scholarships over the summer. Make sure to get all of the necessary paper work down in time (FAFSA, etc.)

Weather: The school year is an endless winter here during the fall and spring semester. Michigan Tech gets a lot of snow and storms so make sure to have a hat and gloves all the time. Fall can be pleasant at times with cooler temperatures, but you can also experience endless rainy days. During the late fall into the spring semester, you'll just see a lot of snow falling and it won't until finals.

Off-Campus Housing: Living off campus is certainly nice because of the extra freedom you get, plus you get to live with your friends. For the most part, you can find a house close to campus either through the local apartments or off the side streets from campus. The downside to becoming a walking distance from campus is that the rent is usually a lot higher so the best houses to buy on an affordable budget would require a driving distance of at least five to ten minutes.

Athletics: Fan support is always great, especially with the Pep Band playing to cheer on. No matter how good or bad a game is going, you know that they'll be able to make it even better. Aside from Pep Band, the team always plays their hearts out and make some exciting plays.

Computers: Our computers in the library and computer labs are great and very reliable. However, the wireless support for the dorms and throughout campus is terrible.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: The houses are fairly close to campus depending on which house you choose to rent. Others require some type of transportation in order to attend classes.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Most sports are attended only as something to go to considering all sports are D-2 with the exception of hockey. Because our hockey team is D-1, the student section is always packed for their home games.

Academics: As a highly recognized school in the field of engineering, it gives students a great advantage to get internships and co-ops at professional companies all over the Midwest. The engineering programs are rigorous and require a lot of hard work and dedication, but at the same time provides students with real life situations and how to apply what we learn in the classroom to real life jobs.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: Most people go to fraternities over the weekend to party, and people who are 21 and over will usually go to the bars.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: We have shuttles that run daily over campus. It is also easy to find someone to give you a ride around town or back home.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: There are not many diverse students that enroll here but the community is accepting to most of those who are.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Drug usage is not extremely noticeable. When students partake in it they are usually safe about it and stay out of trouble.

1 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: There are a lot more guys than girls and most of the girls here are not very attractive at all.

5 College Freshman

Academics: Great school for engineering. The professors are willing to help out with anything you need and the advisers are great.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: There are tons of scholarships that you are able to get and are easy to apply for.

Campus Dining: The food is not good at all. I tend to order food from Jimmy Johns a lot just because i do not want to eat the dorm food.

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: The campus is the third safest in the nation. There is not crime that ever happens up here and you feel safe no matter where you are.

5 College Freshman

Academics: It is one of the best schools for engineering. All the students are very smart and there are always places to get help. The only one issue is that there is a very high workload.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It is a great school and very smart. The education is great and all of the students are very smart. The social life is a little bit lacking but school is supposed to be for the education which is great.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: There are generally parties most nights especially on the weekends. Frats are always having parties but I have found those to not be as fun. It tends to be mostly guys and there are quite a bit of dirty people. Parties at regular houses are much better than the frat parties. There are also plenty of bars to go out to and the is one club.

2 College Freshman

Athletics: Athletics are not a very big part of student life which is a little disappointing for someone being very into sports. The facilities are nice and open to student, but the only varsity that anyone sort of cares about is hockey.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Majority of the restaurants are local restaurants. Joeys is the best restaurant around.
