College Sophomore

Majors: I have not had internship and there are many opportunities for internships.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: The whole school really focuses on undergraduates.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Expensive and some new and some old buildings. It can be average.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: We are great at hockey and that's about it, all the important sports like football and basketball we are subpar at.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Always feel safe walking home at night on campus.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Never a dull moment in good old oxbox.

Weather: Spring and Fall are great but when winter rolls around you better have warm clothing.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: Weather is usually very nice in the spring and fall, so I dont mind walking to class!

Winters can be cold and snowy which makes for a miserable walk to class.

College Sophomore

Greek Life: I really dont know much about social Greek life on campus.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are many great places to eat uptown and a big variety. Cost is pretty affordable.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: Every once in a while, the internet all over campus will stop working and since most homework assignments are submitted online, that can be a big problem.

There are nice computer labs around, and they are often working well and easy to use.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: My majors of Geography and Sustainability had no abnormal application process to go through.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I love being both a Geography and Sustainability double major. The advisers are so easy to talk to and most of the other faculty and staff are very friendly and great teachers!

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: I love the community of Oxford, Oh. There are plenty of places to eat uptown, cute local shops to browse around and many clubs that are strict about not serving alcohol to underage students!

My two biggest complaints, many places to live around Oxford are very expensive, and parking. Parking is awful around campus and uptown.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: My friends and I have had no issues with people peer pressuring us to use any kind of drugs and alcohol. There are many other things to do around campus and Oxford that do not involve drinking and drug use.

3 College Student

Transportation: You can pretty much walk anywhere, which is good. However, when you need a taxi, the local services are dodgy at best.

Health & Safety: Never once felt threatened or unsafe in Oxford. Safe little town with plenty of police presence. The cops aren't overbearing, at least in my experience, though being belligerently drunk/disorderly may get you a ticket.

Campus Dining: Great a la carte meal options, pricey but worth it.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: They do enough to keep things under control but allow you to have fun.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I do not notice many people partaking in the use of drugs.

College Freshman

Greek Life: I am not a part of greek life.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: The academics at Miami are the best. The professors are interested in what they teach and are very helpful. The classes are challenging and push to do to better.

3 College Freshman

Facilities: There is a lot of space on campus. The rec center is a great facility.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I have never lived in an off campus facility.

Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

There’s an old saying that goes, “You can make a big school small, but you can’t make a small school big.” The overall experience at Miami University is different for every student, but most seem to have enjoyed their time here, and most will agree that the former part of this statement is representative of Miami. Miami is not a huge school, but it is large enough to feel like a big university without being overwhelming. It is essential to find a niche when you arrive; otherwise, you may get lost in the shuffle. One of the best ways to determine if you will like Miami is to take into consideration what is important to you in a school and to really weigh your options. Visit the campus and ask questions—this is the next four or five years of your life. If Miami does not fulfill an important need you have, it probably isn’t the school for you, and there are people here who feel like they don’t belong.

Nobody enjoys school 100 percent of the time, but the students at Miami have a plethora of options, both social and academic, at their doorsteps. At Miami, you cannot be afraid to try new things, talk to new people, or grow as an individual. However, this is true no matter where you decide to attend college. Overall, the most important fact to take away from this guide is that most students feel that they made the right decision in attending Miami.
