But Mercer Atlanta Campus take trips to Macon or with Macon by charter bus so that we can attend events, use the student centers to watch the event streaming live via satellite, and stay engaged the best way we can. Mercer is the only private university in Georgia that competes in NCAA Division I athletics, but sports are not the biggest draw for the University. The men’s and women’s basketball teams are the most recognized teams on campus. They draw the most students to games, and school spirit is generally greatest around the annual Mercer basketball Homecoming game. However, the other teams are rarely talked about, and students generally do not make it a high priority to attend games.

While the University does not currently have a football team—Mercer’s football tradition ended with America’s involvement in WWII in 1941—the sport is scheduled to be reinstated in 2013, and there is a high level of anticipation for this. Mercer is seeking membership into the Pioneer Football League, a football-only conference made up of colleges and universities that participate in NCAA Division I non-scholarship football. Currently, there is no football stadium at Mercer, but the University will be building one in the very near future. The UC Arena is a large, beautiful facility where the volleyball and basketball teams play, and it is highly accessible and attached to other sports facilities in the UC, all of which are fairly up to date.

School Spirit
Most school spirit is reserved for men's basketball, especially around Homecoming. Yet, in comparison to other universities, spirit at Mercer is generally on the low side, and there is usually low attendance at games for sports besides basketball. However, the news that Mercer's football team will be reinstated in 2013 has caused much excitement, so spirit may be boosted in the next few years.
Getting Tickets
Students often have an advantage, as long as they stand in line for tickets early.
