3 College Senior

Nightlife: Not really nightlife at school. Some school events go late and some events in town until 2 am. Not very often.

Campus Strictness: Very strict no drug or alcohol policy. School safety helpful and vigilant, town police nice. No men in girls dorms, there are some dorms where co-ed is okay but not overnight. All school funded activities alcohol and drug free.

4 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: Lots of activities for students and locals. Open mike nights every week, fairs, car shows, art walks, plays and dances, music nights. Availability for new shows and events.

4 College Senior

Campus Dining: Vegetarian campus and all organic food. Variety everyday with some good staples like salad bar. Food hot and good.

4 College Senior

Weather: Most of the year is fine but winters can be very cold with lots of snow. Everything is within walking distance and town is about a mile or so from campus which makes it easier in snow. Roads well paved and grocery store 5 min walk from campus.

4 College Senior

Parking: Parking permit is cheap and within 5 minute walk of classes and main dining hall. Parking fills up fast but I can always find a spot.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of vegetarian options and options for meat eaters as well. Lots of individual restaurants few chains. Really good Indian food and Italian. Crepe Escape is really good organic food! Decently priced and lots of good coffee shops with active mike nights.

5 College Senior

Athletics: Very knowledgeable staff in gym. Excellent facilities with a lot of equipment. Rock climbing wall, park-our classes, indoor tennis and basketball courts, indoor track, new dance floor, exercise classes, kayaks for student use and free bike rentals. Staff is helpful and facility is clean. Soccer field, trails to walk, and outdoor pool.

3 College Senior

Computers: There are computers in library, student lounge and some comp classes. Necessary to bring personal lap top to some classes. Wireless bad in dorms but every room has Ethernet cable which makes speed faster. New computers in student lounge and cafe has WiFi. Printing cheap in library and knowledgeable help.

4 College Senior

Campus Housing: Living in the dorms is good. You get single rooms which is nice and they are always throwing events for the residents. Cost is a little expensive but most everyone gets a lot of financial aide help. Social atmosphere is good in the dorms and there are a lot of social activities. The dorms are close to the classes and the cafeteria. Housing is very helpful and easy to deal with.

4 College Senior

Guys & Girls: There are people from many different countries around the world with a variety of interests. There is a large group of students in the business and sustainable living programs. The age is mostly mid-20s but there are students 18 years old and some in their 50s and 60s. There are a lot of school-run dances and celebrations like Chinese new year and 8os themed dances to help you meet people. Everyone is really friendly and helpful.

Greek Life: Greeks and non-greeks can get along pretty well..

Overall Experience: It fits my lifestyle and needs.

Scholarships: Be honest to your admissions counselor

1 College Junior

Diversity: They have some international students. Maybe 5 gay people and mostly white people. There is no gay life here. It's depressing

Nightlife: There is no nightlife here. There are a couple of bars that have a lot of the locals hang out. A lot of the locals are scary and white trash. There is a huge meth community in Iowa. There are NO clubs, no gay clubs no nice places to really go and have a beer without a bloody bar fight breaking out. It's disgusting. Being a gay male here is very hard and you will basically be single and celibate unwillingly.

Guys & Girls: There are some really interesting hippy types here but most people don't care about you and they are pretty narcissistic.

2 College Junior

Majors: M.U.M. tends to not be completely upfront about certain issues. They are heavily influenced by the Transcendental Meditation movement and try to incorporate too much of that in all their curriculum.

Being a pre-med major it is hard to follow how to apply Vedic Science with certain subjects. Although it's very interesting to have that influence with some things, it can't be applied to everything.

The community here also reveres a guru (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) and it is hard to get by sometimes, especially if they claim it's not a religious facility. There is a lot of pushing of their views and ideals on new students to kind of re-program their thinking. A lot of required classes tend to upset the students because they are heavily induced with Maharishi's philosophies.

I am trying to transfer out because I want to go to a school that doesn't pressure the student into their philosophy. It's nice for those who want to follow this lifestyle. I appreciate it but I came here to get an education not become some enlightened master. It's a mixed bag. You can really get a lot out of this place if you want but if you are trying to do some kind of prepatory program id advise sticking with a traditional school.

4 Recent Alumnus

Campus Housing: Living on campus was the most fun I have ever had. Dorm life was amazing. Since MUM is in a small town, it gets pretty boring over the long weekend every month. People usually get out of town and drive to Iowa city on the long weekend.

3 Recent Alumnus

Weather: Winter is absolutely freezing with many many days below zero. Spring is lovely, but very rainy. Fall is beautiful. Summer is terrible- hot and way too humid. The humidity is very high there all year round.

4 Recent Alumnus

Parking: It is a small campus, so there is usually plenty of parking. Some people walk everywhere. Tickets are given out for extreme bad parking.

4 Recent Alumnus

Diversity: There are many international students so there is alot of diversity. Everyone seems to accept everyone else and respect all students. There are many different religions. It is an amazing place to grow.

College Sophomore

Greek Life: There is no Greek life that I have seen. There is just life. People from many countries are here and we all get along very well.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Driving is a little rough, but everything is really good. I've only been here a short time, but so far I have not had any fears, either day or night.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Right now, it's really cold, because of winter. I haven't been here for the other seasons, but I hear many good things. The summers can be hot, but that is to be expected.
