5 College Junior

Health & Safety: If something happens someone is there to talk to you and help you out.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: From what I've seen campus is a very safe place. Crimes that do happen are the exception, and usually occur off-campus.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I feel very safe and secure. However, campus security can seem a little too strict sometimes.

5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: It is so safe at Luther that many people feel comfortable leaving their laptops in study lounges if they need to go to the bathroom or grab something from their room. Even for longer periods of time. I've only ever heard of one person loosing their backpack for two days, and that was because someone else had thought that it was lost and had turned it into the lost and found.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Personally, I always feel very safe on campus. The campus police are always available when needed and ready to act. Campus crime is very low, and mass warning texts come from the college to each student warning us if we are ever in danger.

Luther College and Decorah in general could not be any safer if they came straight out of a '50s sitcom. The campus, city, and surrounding area are all places in which students can feel comfortable at all times. The campus police department gets a bad rap for issuing a lot of parking tickets, but they do a lot of other things for students, like giving rides to injured students, unlocking and jumpstarting cars (especially important in the winter), and helping drunken students with whatever treatment they might need.

Due to the small campus size, transportation and group excursions have no curfew, allowing students to have fun at any time they wish. This does not mean, however, that you have a license to do whatever you want. Students are still encouraged to travel in packs, especially at night, and doors must always be locked. There are also occasional incidents of violence, sexual assault, and theft, but those are few and far between. Still, you can be encouraged not to live in fear of crime, violence or other problems. As long as students choose not to do anything stupid, they can be assured that they will be living, working, and playing in a safe location.
