Local Atmosphere: New Orleans, I would say, is more of a city thing, but it is never far from the rural and small life--with smaller cities such as Houma and Thibodaux (which holds Nicholls) about an hours drive away. Tulane is our neighbor school, with LSU , UL/ULM and many other schools not too far away. Plenty of social Networks.

Local Atmosphere: New Orleans is an incredible city with a culture like no other. My twin brother and I have started our own musical duo, operating under our last name, "Mulherin." There are tons of connections in the rap/R&B world in New Orleans who are helping us to get our musical careers off the ground as much as possible. I will definitely stay in New Orleans after I graduate and live there. There are tons of beautiful cafes and restaurants all around the city, as well as great boutiques and stores to shop in. People are usually very nice in the city to students, especially school as recognized as Loyola. The city isn't very safe at nighttime, but you really just have to be careful and stay in groups when you go out. Overall, the local atmosphere surrounding Loyola in uptown New Orleans is amazing.

The atmosphere on campus is one of relaxation and love of everyone. No matter where you go, you will meet someone who will be happy to help you. However, always exercise caution when out in the city. Many venues offer student discounts with a valid student ID to make products more affordable to students.

Most students go off campus for entertainment, but there are a few who prefer to stay on campus and entertain themselves with on-campus events. In fact, some of these students actually attend events at Tulane Univeristy because it is practically right next door. For Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Loyola's Black Student Union teams up with Tulane, Dillard, and Xavier University to plan an MLK Day of Service and plan events for the week prior.
