4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Overall, as more of a visitor to the town, my experience has been that I love to look at the scenery and the food of the restaurants I went to was good, and I loved the activities that were around. Again, I just visited to tour the campus and took a joy ride through the town.

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: The local atmosphere of McMinnville, Oregon is nice. The town includes great restaurants, hotels for family to stay, outdoor activities, cute shops, and more.

2 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: No a cool place to hangout

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: We are located in a rural area so there aren't a lot of things to do. We go to Corvallis a lot and interact with kids there.

2 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: I'm from a big city, so the rural location of the school is much more limited than i am accustomed to. there are few cultural events off of campus, there is virtually no shopping, aside from the walmart and the few boutiques on the main street. The attractions nearby are the wineries which are nice if you are of legal drinking age and enjoy wine tasting. The locals can be peculiar, but overall they seem to treat us kindly, aside from the occasional unfriendly individual.

McMinnville can be described as "quaint and cute," but many say that there isn't very much to do. The town is located in the heart of Willamette Valley's wine country, midway between the coast and Portland. If you have a car or can catch a ride with friends, then there are plenty of things to do in the Portland area. If you don't have a car, the campus is within walking distance from the main part of town, with shops, movie theaters, and restaurants to explore. Students agree that there are always plenty of things to do on campus, through the Linfield Activities Board. They sponsor trips and bring musicians, comedians, and movies to campus. Also, other universities such as Willamette University, Western Oregon, and George Fox are nearby, so students can attend each other's events.

McMinnville has a central location to Portland, which is 30 miles away. The downtown historic district of Portland has 100 commercial buildings and was recently revitalized. Because Portland is one of the greenest cities in America, there are plenty of do-it-yourself (DIY) things to do in the area, including drop-in sewing studios and gardens. Plus, Portland is a mecca for indie rock, with the likes of the late Elliott Smith getting his start here.
