College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Working on degree online. I have never visited the campus.

College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Working on degree online. I have never visited the campus.

College Sophomore

Nightlife: Have never visited St. Charles, I am working on my degree online.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: They could be a bit more generous with merit scholarships, or even discounts for military and their dependents.

College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I don't have enough experience to formulate an opinion.

College Sophomore

Diversity: I am working on my Master's online. I have not been on campus.

Off-Campus Dining: There is a lot of variety in dining options in the surrounding area. There is a nice balance between local and chain restaurants, variety in the types of restaurants in town, and also varied ranges of cost. Downtown St. Charles has many, many restaurants and is located about 3-5 minutes (driving) from campus.

2 College Junior

Scholarships: The institution does not offer any individual institutional scholarships. There are work-and-learn experiences that somewhat makes up for this. I am a graduate assistant who was lucky to be hired for an assistantship, but it has been a confusing experience. It seems that the offices of Financial Aid, the Business Office, and those who are in charge of Graduate Assistantships are not at all on the same page. Further, it is not clear whether or not additional fees (such as online fees) are covered by GA work.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: Greek life doesn't seem to have a huge impact on campus, but is available for students who are interested.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I feel safe on campus because there always seems to be a lot of people around and there are lit up emergency poles in many areas on campus. I don't see security much; they are mostly seen driving around in their trucks. However, I do know that they clear and lock buildings each night.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: The university is very strict about drinking on campus. There is male and female housing and (I think) that individuals from the opposite genders are not allowed into the buildings.

4 College Junior

Academics: The academics in my major, MA TESOL, are very rigorous. It is challenging, which is nice. As mentioned above, the work load in some courses is excessive. The program involves a teaching practicum at the end.

3 College Junior

Weather: It seems that the weather is always changing, (i.e., shorts on Monday and winter coats by Friday), but that is just Missouri!

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: Many people drink, and I know many sneak alcohol onto the dry campus. I don't personally know of anyone who does drugs. I have not been exposed to any incidences of peer pressure or heard of many MIP or alcohol/drug-related issues.

3 College Junior

Nightlife: St. Charles has a diverse offering of nightlife opportunities. There are the typical college bars, some more mellow options, a nicer brewing company restaurant/bar, a nightclub, and multiple indoor/outdoor options.

Local Atmosphere: St. Charles, and the surrounding area, has a lot to offer students. There are several beautiful parks in the area and there are many opportunities for community and cultural events. St. Charles has several great restaurants and a good mix of local and familiar chain dining. There are a variety of shopping places nearby as well. The University is fairly close to St. Louis which is home to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, Rams football team, and Blues hockey team. St. Charles just got its own hockey team, the St. Charles Chill. There is a concert venue less than 15 minutes away and another venue in St. Louis City.

Majors: A very long research paper was required for entry into my MA TESOL program, which almost turned me off to the program because I did not have anything from my undergraduate work that would qualify. However, the head of the program put me in contact with a current and former student who gave me great information on the program.

4 College Junior

Majors: I feel that I am challenged and learn a great deal. All of my professors have been incredibly knowledgeable about their subject and the course material. However, the general consensus of those of us in the program is that the work load in a few of the courses is excessive. Also, we would like to see more real-world applications to the field, following the heavy theoretical focus that is taken. The institution also needs to take more of an interest in recruiting for this program.

College Junior

Campus Housing: I do not live in campus housing.

Health & Safety: I think it is great so far.

Campus Strictness: It is very strict, which takes away all the fun.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: We have a close by area with many clubs and bars but there is not much campus partying because we are a "dry campus".

5 College Freshman

Athletics: My school is really focused on sports. We have some of the best athletes.

Weather: Walking to class can be a hassale in winter becuse it is so cold. My dorm did not have AC, and that was hard to deal with as well.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Again, I havn't been in enough situations to have any relevant experience.
