4 College Sophomore

Weather: There are beautiful days where you can go hiking and enjoy the outdoors. Then again it is called drenchburg for a reason, it can rain quite a bit sometimes.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: My dad handled most of the paperwork, since this is his second kid going to college, but it went smoothly. Liberty was always just a phone call away.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: You will meet people from all over the world and the US. LU is one of the few schools which are so diverse. It is refreshing.

1 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Sorry, if a night life is what you're looking for, go to another school.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: Honestly this school's weakness is it's academics. They are pursuing a stronger academic status, but then again they are not putting much effort toward it. They need to invest in research.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: The rules are not always the best from a usual sutdent's perspective, but they are helpful and serve a purpose. I do not mind them and most students don't really either. We may complain, but inside we don't know what we would do if we had to go to a school full of young people allowed to make poor choices.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: There is hardly any peer pressure to do drugs here at school, especially for the girls. Marijuana has been found in guy's dorms, but that's rare compared to most colleges. You can always find good influences in your life here if you're willing to look.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: There is good transportation service at LU. I hardly ever see taxis on campus because Liberty provides a lot of transportation. Also, the students are so nice most people can find a ride from someone.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: Everything is outstanding...until your internet goes out. (Which happens too often here)

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing is substantially less expensive than on-campus housing, which is why so many students try to live off campus.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I am only halfway into the accounting program here, but it seems pretty good and foundational. The material is challenging and I think it will prepare me for the CPA exam, which is all an accounting program needs to be able to do.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: I honesty did not come to LU for its accounting program. I chose this after I found that it provided great opportunities. It was fairly easy to get into the program. I have good grades, which I believed helped the transition into accounting.

Local Atmosphere: It's a great location for me personally. I love the mountains where students can go hiking or running on the trails. The locals seem nice. I have heard that they do not like LU, but I do not get out of the LU bubble to see that. There isn't much to do around here, but the university has a lot of activities for the students to do.

Campus Strictness: Liberty has little tolerance for drugs and alcohol. Liberty is a dry campus, and using alcohol and drugs are punishable under the Liberty Way. I think the fines are pretty hefty, and expulsion might be possible with drug use. It makes the drug use/alcohol use on campus non-existant. One does not have to worry about those aspects of college, which is nice if academics are your priority. Liberty has a great social atmosphere without the parties, as well.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: One of the plus sides to our housing is that girls and guys have separate dorms. A downside is that guys and girls are not allowed in each others dorms. I cannot even visit my sisters in their dorms. Better safe then sorry, I guess...

3 College Junior

Athletics: Our basketball team has made it to the NCAA tournaments, and our football team is decent. The football games seem the best-attended of all of the sports, and we're a Div. A school.

Off-Campus Dining: My favorite place is probably Osakas. It's a Japanese restaurant about five minutes from campus. It tastes great, is not expensive, and does not use waiters, so one does not have to pay for a tip. Plus, drinks are free and your meal is brought to your group when it is ready.

Weather: Liberty is in the mountains. As such, it can be 70 degrees one day and 30 the next in the late winter/early spring. A few inches of snow shuts down the city because the southern United States cannot deal with snow very well. But it gets warm quick in the spring!

Nightlife: One does not come to Liberty for the nightlife. There are no parties—which I would consider a good thing—and most off-campus stores close before midnight because of curfew at 12. The curfew is a bit of a pain, but I guess it is understandable. The nightlife here is bad, but some—myself included—would see that as a good thing in some cases.

Health & Safety: We have decent security, but we don't need a whole lot. Liberty is on the very edge of Lynchburg, which is a really small city. It seems like crime is almost non-existant. I trust my fellow students and have never had any issues. Even the drinking is not a problem: it seems like most of it is underground because it is a dry campus. I've never had to worry about my safety here.

College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: I've never lived off-campus. I've heard one can save money by moving off if one is smart about it. The apartments I've looked at are nice, and the prices are decent. Some are actually owned by the school as well, so there are free buses that go from them to the campus.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: My college experience has been the furthest thing from typical, so financial aid has been somewhat difficult. I did get the aid I needed from Federal student loans. Liberty has a financial aid office that has helped me find consider my options for the years I've had trouble keeping costs down, and it was a really good resource.

College Junior

Greek Life: I don't think Liberty has a Greek life, whatever that is...

5 College Junior

Academics: Liberty's worship program is one of the best worship programs in the world. We receive the training that any musician would receive in a music school: theory, aural skills, music technology, conducting, private instruction in our primary instruments—mine being guitar—training in ensembles and choirs, and either private or secondary group vocal lessons. In addition, we take worship history and theology courses as part of the program and theology and Biblical worldview courses as gen. ed. courses.

4 College Junior

Transportation: Transportation is free, and the school has bus lines that go across campus, as well as to the residential annex (off-campus overflow dormitories) and some of the local apartments. It is fairly convenient. The school also added bus stop covers a little bit ago, and at least one has a heat lamp to keep students warm while waiting for the bus!
