While Lesley does have sports teams, they are not a major part of life on campus. Currently, Lesley does not own any of its athletic facilities, so games tend to be a little far from campus; this tends to discourage students from attending, as they need to plan ahead in order to catch a ride to the game. However, Lesley does provide a “fan van” for most of the games, which transports students to and from sporting events at no cost. Also, Lesley has shown interest in buying its own athletic facilities for the school, so this could possibly affect the interest level in team sports.
Even though Lesley is a Division III school, many of the sports teams do very well in their division, with many advancing far into the post-season, sometimes taking home the championship. Those students who do participate in sports tend to be very passionate about playing, and the players develop great bonds within their teams. Intramural sports teams are popular with a number of students at Lesley. Teams such as flag football and the ultimate Frisbee club have many participants, and utilize the fields of the Cambridge Common for practices and games. Other nonvarsity sports include rock climbing club and both male and female indoor soccer teams, and new teams are being created every semester.
