5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I really have never felt unsafe on campus

2 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The health center just gives you decongestants for everything.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I usually walk home alone, or with only one or two friends; never a random person, either. There are not emergency phones on campus, which sucks, but whatever. Since I live in the dorm right next to the cop station, I always see them, so I can't really comment on how present or not present they are on campus. In general, though, they are pretty nice; I'm not the best judge - I get uncomfortable around any cop.

College Freshman

Health & Safety: I have had no issues and have not gone to the health center so I'm not sure.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: On campus there is never an issue. Lehigh police do a great job keeping us safe. Bethlehem police are only off campus and only help to bust parties. Don't walk alone at night in south bethlehem in unlit areas, people sometimes get mugged, especially in the streets away from the party scene.

Lehigh students feel incredibly safe on campus, and in certain cases, the police can seem almost too overbearing. Off campus is where the problem lies. The areas immediately surrounding campus aren’t terrible, but a few blocks either east or west of campus can be considered somewhat dangerous, especially at night. The Lehigh police force does an excellent job of keeping the campus safe, although at times, it seems like the main part of their job entails breaking up parties and busting students for underage drinking rather than doing actual crime-fighting.

Walking around on campus is almost always safe, no matter what time of night it is, as there are emergency call boxes all over campus. The vehicular entrance to the Hill is policed even on weekend nights to ensure that only Hill residents are driving up to their houses. While this policy can be annoying to non-Hill residents looking to drive up there, it was enacted in response to the increasing amount of townies that used to attend fraternity parties, and as a result, has lessened crime on the Hill. Students who live off campus tend to experience a bit more crime, but as long as people take the right precautions and don’t put themselves in unsafe situations, living off campus should be relatively crime-free.

Did You Know?
According to Lehigh's rulebook, if a fraternity house has 50 people or more hanging out, it constitutes an unregistered party, and the fraternity can be subject to probation. Despite this policy, the rule is regularly flaunted by fraternities, yet they risk potential trouble with campus police by doing so.
