5 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: The campus is located in a very nice area where it is very safe, the local community loves us, and there is a lot to do once you open up your eyes and start exploring a bit. From North Park to Ross Park Mall there are tons of shops and places to go, with the surrounding area slowly but steadily growing and allowing more for the students to choose from as far as dining, shopping and leisure activities.

4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Nearly every day as I left my residence hall, I turned to the left where the sun rose, cars chugged, buildings blossomed and trees swayed. I saw a beautiful life before me. The scenery I saw inspired hope, encouragement, peace, and love.

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: The activities around the school are often very scarce. La Roche is a small campus so we often have small dances in the college center square. The only places around the campus are a mall and a movie theater. People often enjoy going to the park near the campus. The students here are friendly and diverse.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: We have great mall, but if you want to do anything you have you go into the city of Pittsburgh.

2 College Student

Local Atmosphere: There is not that many exciting activities to do at La Roche. I am a commuter, and I have asked residents if they like the "college life", and they say they are very bored.

La Roche is located approximately 20 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh in a suburban area where the College's immediate surroundings include a housing development, an apartment complex, and a bar. If you do not have a car, the off-campus entertainment options are hard to get to due to the lack of public transportation in this section of the Pittsburgh area. Access to entertainment is much easier for students with cars. Many restaurants and shopping centers line the route from La Roche to downtown Pittsburgh, so there are numerous options in regard to places to escape college life—if you have the proper transportation.

Once you get to the heart of Pittsburgh, there is a large number of bars, clubs, and coffeehouses, which provide excellent places to mix and mingle with other people from the area. Hookah bars and small boutiques are sprinkled throughout the city, as well. For those interested in theater and music, places like Heinz Hall and the Benedum Center host a wide range of performances. Sports fans can take a trip to PNC Park to watch the Pirates play or visit Heinz Field for a Steelers game. Even though the area immediately surrounding La Roche College might not provide students with as many fun activities as they would like, Pittsburgh has quite a few points of interest.
