Local Atmosphere: Parts of the town are really nice. There's a nice, older part of the town that has an antique mall and other fun shops. Other parts of the town aren't super safe so you just wouldn't want to hang out there really. For the most part the locals are super friendly towards the students. I've really liked interacting with them.

Local Atmosphere: Knox students rarely leave the "Knox Bubble" and so my contact with the town is limited. It is a small town, but I find it to be cute and quaint (though some parts of town seem fairly sketchy). I have heard that students and "townies" do not get along well, but I have never experienced this myself. Whenever I go off campus to shop or get coffee, everyone that I encounter is friendly.

Local Atmosphere: Galesburg is a unique city and has its own quirks and charms. It is a little run down but if you look in the right places you can find some real gems. There are antique malls, thrift stores, and restaurants.

Local Atmosphere: Galesburg is a nice and quiet place with quite some opportunities to get involved but there are also a lot lacking. It however makes up for this with its proximity to Peoria, the Quad cities as well as being just a train ride away from Chicago so it definitely helps to be able to escape the serene atmosphere for the raucous noise of the city once on a while.

Local Atmosphere: Galesburg is a town that takes time to learn to love. It is small, Midwestern (read: predominantly conservative and working-class), and has struggled with more than its fair share of economic struggles in the past few decades. But it also has a lot of heart. Galesburg residents are resilient and down-to-earth. There are some incredible small, locally-owned shops and businesses scattered throughout town, and some FANTASTIC restaurants for those days when you want to get off campus/out of the dining halls and explore. Galesburg also boasts a Target, a Wal-Mart, two HyVees (a Midwestern grocery store chain), two Walgreen's, and various other stores where you can stock up on necessities, as well as tons of fast food options. If you absolutely need to satisfy an urban fix, Chicago and St. Louis are both about 3 hours away by train, and Peoria and the Quad Cities are about 40 minutes away.
