College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I have never applied to off campus housing. I don't know what the experience is like and I have yet to visit anyone there. Friends tell me that it is relatively inexpensive.

5 College Freshman

Greek Life: There are a few nay-sayers to Greek life, but overall it is an integral part of life at Kettering. Greek life performs many social events. Many fraternities (we mostly have fraternities because there are low amounts of women on campus) have their own houses.

Diversity: I have never had a problem with diversity on campus. We have a huge ethnic diversity. My unit in my dorm had many Brazilians, an Indian, a Filipino, along with others. The religious diversity in my fraternity goes from atheist, agnostic to Christian. I have not seen many other religious types. Political beliefs are more homogeneous, with Libertarians being much more popular than what is normally seen. Economic background varies greatly. I know people whose parents own 5 houses and I know people who came from a single parent family that was in thousands of dollars of debt.

Campus Housing: It's incredibly overpriced to live in the dorms. My biggest qualm is the school forces students to live in the dorms their first year and pay for their outrageously priced meal plan. Outside, the apartments near the school are fairly priced and much more affordable.

Guys & Girls: We have a wide range of people. It is very ethnically diverse. There are a lot more guys than girls. Most people are into some kind of 'nerdy' or 'geeky' thing. Greek life there is amazing because of the individuals in it.

College Freshman

Athletics: We only have intramural sports, with the exception of an Ultimate Frisbee team. I have had many opportunities to participate in these but have been unable to for various reasons mostly related to academic work. I do not have a fair opinion of the athletics at my school, but we have an amazing recreation center that was completely remodeled in 2010.

5 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The boy to girl ratio is somewhere around 6 to 1 and the males on campus range in looks, interest and dress, but are mainly the type who are quiet and enjoy video games and each other's presence over spending time outside or doing athletics. Relationships vary depending on the situation. Social life is booming, depending on which crowd you hang out with, but doesn't ever exclude people.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Sexual assault is not at all an issue on our campus, in my eyes. Our administration, however, has very good plans in place and holds information sessions for women to explain "what to do" when something like that happens, if it happens.

5 College Sophomore

Diversity: I hear all types of views on every situation and feel that Kettering doesn't stand on one side or another.

5 College Sophomore

Greek Life: I absolutely love Greek life on campus! Most Greeks are sociable, help the community, hold leadership positions on and off campus, and are friendly to Greek members and those who are not Greek. Greek housing depends on the fraternity or sorority. Some have houses, some have apartments, some are close to school, and some are not.

Overall Experience: Kettering is unique in every way possible. We don't focus on sports, everyone is close-knit, we focus on academics, professors are wonderful, and classes are small! If I could do it over again, I would, without a doubt, come back to Kettering!

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: There are no varsity sports teams-only intramural and I love it that way! We are competitive but only with each other and in a friendly way!

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: There is a kitchen if you'd like to cook at any time that it's open, social atmosphere was great, cost is a tad bit pricey, it's close to classes, signing up to live on campus is easy and online, and you get your very own room!

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: People are friendly, bars and restaurants always have college deals, and parties are always happening somewhere!

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Kettering University is in Flint, Michigan in a neighborhood that may seem extremely dangerous but, in fact, is not as long as you are making smart choices. Housing is cheap and the houses and apartments are fairly cheap and very close to campus. Parking can be limited but it depends on your location.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: Registration is usually a make or break situation. Once registration time starts you had better have your codes in the computer and have them submitted or you will lost a class or two.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: Kettering University's Mechanical Engineering program is among the top 10 in the nation and I can see why! Professors are helpful, class sizes are small, our academic spectrum is broad (doesn't only focus on automotive, bio-engineering, etc.), and everyone is so friendly!

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: People for the most part know how to handle themselves. If there are some that don't, there are people willing to take care of one another. Benefits of a small campus

3 College Sophomore

Academics: You gain some crucial real-world application, however, you also take classes that will never ever affect your job after school

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: There's plenty of housing scattered along campus. Just need to get in contact with weird landlords

2 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Thompson Hall was the worst dormatory building I've visited. Other campuses offer much more and actually have options and amenities

5 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Kettering Greek life is far different from most campuses. Greeks are very involved and form a strong network for school and job opportunities

2 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Flint lives by a set of its own rules. There's nothing much a few security guards riding around campus can do

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The cooperative experience puts us years ahead experience-wise compared to other universities

3 College Sophomore

Computers: Wish there was another lab on the second floor that didn't have scheduled classes in it
