Athletics: We have very little athletics here at Jarvis Christian College. We Have Men's/Woman's Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball, And Track & Field.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: It's not very strict, but as like other schools they're rules and policies that you have to follow or else you'll get fined.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Besides the students pulling the fire alarm continuously, it's not that bad to live on campus.

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: It's not a lot of attractions in this city but it's very peaceful and a non distraction to students when they're studying etc..

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: The financial aid process can be very long and a hassle, but the financial aid staff are willing to work with you to get the help that you need to pay for school.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: It doesn't really bother me much since I stay on campus, but the weather varies during each season.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The nurse is usually available but is very limited to the medicine that she could give the students.

Local Atmosphere: Hawkins is a small town , with not so much to do. To have fun , you have to mingle with other , go to program , and step out of your box. You have to make your fun by bringing your own entertainment or meeting friends. There is really not much to do if you are a city person but it really teach you the principles on how to survive and enjoy what you have in life. When you first arrive at Jarvis you see a long white gate like you entering a state college prison for bad students who want better there education inside the gates. I know that's not very nice to say but its a first impression of what I saw and view the school.
There really aren't any attractions around the area. But about thirty minutes up the road there are shopping malls and centers. There is always room for improvement, however, the security on campus is pretty good. I have yet to hear of anyone being in danger on a late night campus walk.
Personally I'm not in any of the sports or sport clubs they have here at JCC, but I do know several people that are on the team. Our varsity basketball team isn't too bad you have to keep in mind that the school is small, so tailgating and basketball games aren't as big than the other universities. I know they offer a lot of sport activities at the rec center which is the gym we have here on campus. My roommate and her friend are on a volleyball team they made with a group of there friends and they have games regularly.
We do not have campus provided transportation.

Nightlife: Quit, dusk balls behind old Jarvis white gates. Unfortunately I'm not a party person at all so I never see the scene or know anything about them.

3 College Senior

Campus Dining: Well there is really not much to say about the food selection at Jarvis Christian college because Hawkins is a small country city located in east Texas. If you miss dinner, breakfast or lunch you out of luck. There is only one cafertia and they cook only southern food maybe a little different culture food.

Greek Life: Greek life creates, through their ideals, an ever-widening circle of service beyond the membership.
Greek life develop the individual's student potential through leadership opportunities and group effort, and also fill the need of belonging.
The young student who wants fraternity experience will find it possible to belong on most campuses today. Greek life is a social experience arrived at by mutual choice and selection were most young people feel a continuing need to belong. Parents appreciate fraternity values and standards and cooperate to make membership possible. College administrations, recognizing the values of fraternities, continue to welcome them on their campuses and to invite them to establish new chapters.
I've gotten to know a lot of the Greek at JCC here on campus and the majority of them are really welcoming and outgoing. They throw some really good parities. They don't look at you any different if you aren't in a sorority or a frat, but it does help if you're in one. I've noticed some of the Greeks do things in the community and some don't. People that aren't part of Greek life know a lot of people in them, but from what I've heard when I ask people why they aren't in one, the usual response is that it's just not for them. It honestly just depends if it's for you or not.
This campus has a lot of Greek life organization, but not a lot of people are involved in those organizations. Many people on this campus feel threatened by the stigma that all Greek life haze and only think about partying, they don't see the real good things that can come out of these organizations. The housing seems nice and the Greek Frat house is located across the train track in convenient place in the front of the entire campus.

Transportation: The last 2 years I've been getting to school by catching a ride with a fellow student. It would not be that bad cost wise because my at fills up on 40 dollars. So those long distance rides are not always bad.

Health & Safety: I have given the grade B- to the safety and security on campus, because all of the staff and security are always kind and they do their job pretty good. However, at Jarvis Christian College there are large amounts of students who bring Marijuana and liquor onto the school campus. I think if they were more strict on the searching, maybe the importing of the liquor in drugs would decrease and the GPA's would increase.

4 College Senior

Majors: The process of getting into my major was easy since I just declared and was allowed to be in the program.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: Jarvis is a small school in the rebuilding process so until they can get some more school funds, the facilities are old and outdated.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Athletics at Jarvis are superb, everyone plays sports either for the school or in their spare time. There are always school events in which there are sports activities involved and everyone participates.

Guys & Girls: Everyone seems to have a sense of fashion and sporty. The school is filled with athletes that are good at almost every sport from basketball, football, volleyball, baseball, and even ping pong. Mostly everyone has a good friendly competitive spirit.

Greek Life: I love the Greek life at Jarvis Christian College due to the enormous history of each BGLO (Black Greek Lettered Organization). They all display a sense of manly deeds, scholarship, community friendly, love for all, and a sense of uplifting of spirits towards academics and student life.

5 College Freshman

Academics: The teachers are great. They know you by name and spend ample amounts of time making sure you understand the criteria.

1 College Freshman

Campus Dining: There is only one place you can eat at Jarvis and that is at the cafe. Its only open three times a day which makes it hard for me as a runner to stay fit if i can barley eat.

5 College Freshman

Academics: The academics are very good . It teaches you new things as well as review the things from secondary school.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: They will get on you about not going to class if you have that issue, They will also help with the financial aid.

4 College Junior

Transportation: There is no need for public transportation. The campus is small and everything is assessible.

3 College Junior

Majors: I declared my major in Criminal Justice. I am very happy with my classes and my degree plan. The classes are challenging but I am learning alot. Online classes were challenging at first but I had to learn how to prioritize my school and playing basketball. I plan to join the Air Force when I graduate next year. I would like to be a Air traffice controller or work in CID which would be helpful with my major.

Off-Campus Housing: Off campus housing near the campus is limited. Many renters are leary about renting to college students. But the choices that are available are well maintained and reasonably priced.
