Athletics: the gym is great. it's free and IC students are ranked 14th fittest in the country so health is important here. but as for sport support no one really cares. except for Cortaca -everyone cares then.

5 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Ithaca is THE BEST college town. The locals are incredible. The town has it's own unique character and there are tons of events that happen throughout the year such as Apple Fest, PorchFest(local music festival), ChiliFest, Ice Scultping Fest.....you get the picture. Local music scene is super interesting with multiple jazz clubs and venues for 5$ entry. TONS of great food ranging from plain good greasy pizza to vietnamese to indian to thai to gourmet waffles. you can pretty much find it all.

4 College Freshman

Computers: tons of software freee to use. free printing. WiFi sucks but you get used to it

5 College Freshman

Majors: Im in the Park School of Communications and there is literally nothing like it anywhere else. Your professors have all done incredible things with their lives, internships are literally a meeting/handshake away. Park wants you to succeed and you will if you put the work/ networking in.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: Sexuality and Perspective wise IC is extremely diverse. But if you're looking for racial diversity, there isn't tons but of what there is everyone is super accepting.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: it's ridiculously expensive, but living on campus first year is a must. It's how you make some of your best friends

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: It's Ithaca. I've never felt scared, never nervous walking around by myself- even at 4 in the morning. The scariest thing you may ever encounter is a skunk and even they are calm.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I don't take part in it but people talk about it a lot and since a lot of the people who go here are liberal

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I know a few years back they revoked the ability for the school to have sororities and fraternities in housing or being highly recognized which is sad because it would've helped bring a lot of people closer together.

2 College Freshman

Computers: They really need to work on the wireless access around the school because once you leave your dorm room it is like trying finding the golden ticket just to be able to get internet connection on your laptop.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Well because this is a division 3 school it is focused more on other things rather than sports which is good and bad because it discourages people from coming here since they know they can't get any money or big recognition for it

4 College Freshman

Majors: I love my program with the Health Sciences program but I would love to minor in culture, race, and ethnicity because I would love to combine the two and go into Doctors Without Borders into the future one day.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: I don't go into downtown College town that much but I know that everything is built around the college students and without us their businesses isn't going to do well so yes they are very friendly but there isn't much sports games but there are a lot of recreational activities to do around here and going to farmers market is the best!

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: I actually think this is one of the many things they hit the nail right on the head, I say this because I don't go to many parties so the breaking up isn't really a problem for me and I go to my classes so I don't really know to much about the punishment for attendance but they should be tougher on the stealing of materials/belongings and people should be aware to keep their things safe also because they can only personally help after the crime has been committed.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: What i like about the off-campus dining is that they have so many late night options for the students who are cramming away with no food food in their stomach however the cost for the food can be a little pricey. However, I do know that insomnia cookies are one of the favorites here because they are so good!

5 College Freshman

Academics: The professors are absolutely amazing because they are just so down-to-earth and really love their jobs which makes me fall in love with subject if it brings joy to someone who loves helping me and the other students progress in getting a better education.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I don't live off-campus but I've heard that it is cheaper and makes it easier to lower costs since they are so high nowadays.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: The diversity on the campus is not very much but I do not believe its the college's wrongdoing or mistake but I think the area may put people off because of the cold and the mountain area the college is in. So far the college has been great especially since I am able to find connections with people who are like me but also people with people who are completely opposite of me and my background. The college is also very accepting and supports one another in ways that would amaze you whether it may be religion, political beliefs, ethnic/racial diversity and sexual orientation and with these topics, I know a lot of people struggle with them whether it may be at home or to themselves

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Although I would have liked to receive more financial aid, I am happy with the merit scholarships I have received from the school itself.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The school overall has average strictness

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: While a lot of restaurants in Ithaca can be pricy, there are many that are affordable for the average college student. Not only that, but there are endless options to choose from! Some of my favorites include The Ithaca Bakey, Collegetown Bagels (CTB), Moosewood, Ale House, Taste of Thai, and Simeon's. The TCAT bus system makes it easy to travel to off-campus and experience the food for those who don't own cars.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: I constantly see posts on Twitter, newspaper articles, etc. about the many Varsity teams winning at competitions. I am a student-athlete myself, on the Women's Swim team, and we have been undefeated so far this season.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: There's plenty to do around campus and off campus when the weather is a lot nicer, like Apple Fest, Porch Fest, etc. As for shops downtown, there aren't a whole lot except for a lot of smoke shops. The restaurants and cafes however, are my favorites. I always try to take a trip down town to eat. Safety is top notch. There's blue lights all over campus in case you start to feel scared and help will come right away. I've never had to use the blue lights though as long as I'm with friends, and I feel safe walking around downtown at night. Everyone is super nice to students and get involved with the community.

3 College Freshman

Weather: The campus is absolutely beautiful during the summer, spring, and beginning of fall. I love walking around and to downtown. However, winters are brutal. It gets below freezing and there's snow all the time. As long as you're prepared, it's bearable.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: A lot of people do sports at the college, but as for attending events and what not, people only attend the like the big games that the campus holds. As for the facilities, I think the gyms are one of the best. The A&E Center is amazing inside, and it's great to see sporting events.

When students are asked to evaluate their overall experience at IC, they often look at the lessons they learned both inside and outside of the classroom. Students who go beyond the social aspect of college and get involved end up both gaining the most experience and having the most fun. Many students love IC because of its size. Sometimes, it’s hard to walk anywhere on campus without bumping into someone you know. With such dreadfully cold winters, the academic programs and well-organized student groups are the main reasons students come back every year. Also, the great size allows students to connect with other students in their majors and their professors/advisers, as well.

Like many things in life, students’ experiences with IC are simply what they make of them. If you sit in your dorm room for four years, you will be miserable. If you experience the life Ithaca has to offer and go outside of your comfort zone, you most likely won’t regret your decision to attend IC. The school’s high retention rate proves this. IC offers a great mix of academics and everything else college life should offer—friends, fun, professional opportunities, active campus life, and a time to learn and grow.
