Majors: To gain acceptance to the psychology major I filled out the common app and spoke with some professors but the application was simple. THe application for my IMC minor involved a form and a certain GPA. I believe it was 2.7.

Majors: A lot of good professors, flexible major requirements and great encouragement to go abroad. The classrooms don't always fit everyone comfortably because there is high demand for certain classes. So far my classes have all been really engaging and I feel that I have taken a lot from them.

4 College Junior

Nightlife: I entered the school as a junior, and I was already 21, so I can't say what the underage scene is like. Other than that, the bars and house parties have been pretty solid.

Health & Safety: Campus Police are prevalent; theft is somewhat common. Basically be smart about keeping track of your belongings, and you won't have any issues on campus. There is very little dangerous crime on South Hill.

4 College Junior

Computers: The computers are generally available, capable, and have the necessary programs for any of the classes you'll be taking.

As a business school student, the access to computers is exceptional.

Off-Campus Dining: Ithaca has incredible off-campus food options. The city of Ithaca has more restaurants per capita than NYC. There's all kinds of food that will cater to any diet, culture, or preference.

My personal favorites are: Moosewood, Bandwagon, and The Boatyard.

Guys & Girls: Sometimes the students here at Ithaca college can be hard to make friends with. I am currently a freshman here and ever since I started back in september, Everyone is friends with each other, but not with me. There are at times when I get stared at during my lunch periods and there are times when even my own roommate doesn't talk to me. the ONLY times we talk are when we retrurn from vacations or breaks.

Scholarships: They are present, however they are very stingy to award them to students. They tend to not give out money and truly follow their own guidelines.

Athletics: We have a very strong athletic program at our school and usually rank well in the Empire 8 division. However, they are not a large part of campus life.

Health & Safety: I feel safe when I'm in Ithaca, I never have to worry about something happening to me when I'm walking to my dorm alone at night. Public safety are always available, fast and helpful. The dorms only open with our student ID cards, meaning a stranger cannot get in unless a student let them in. There has been break-ins i the past but i've never knew what exactly happened in those cases. My best advice is to always lock your door and keep your belongings safe if you have a roommate that you do not trust

Computers: There are so many computers and printers available at Ithaca, sometimes i wonder why i even purchased a laptop. The wireless is good most of the time (depending on where you live on campus). Some of the older computers are slow but the macs are fast. And there are 3 computer labs with flexible hours.

Campus Housing: The Towers are great dorms, the rooms are big, the machines in the laundry room are often available and the bathrooms are clean. I currently live in the Terraces which are smaller are the opposite; the laundry room is smaller and the bathrooms are inconvenient. It takes a while for heat to come up when it starts getting colder. But other than that I feel completely safe and welcomed.

Local Atmosphere: The town of Ithaca is THE BEST. Being that we have Ithaca College and Cornell all in one town makes for one big fun college town! The town itself is a real gem- fabulous restaurants, shopping and bars. However, there is also a lot of history and other attractions. On a typical night out in the town of Ithaca, you will encounter so many people, the majority Ithaca college or Cornell students, even though many families and regular adults reside in the town. Its absolutely the best atmosphere, and is rated to be one of the best college towns on many lists!

Guys & Girls: I think all in all, there is every type of person here. There is a large artsy musician population, a pretty decent preppy jock population...Everyone here likes to have a good time, but thus far, I really haven't seen anything too wild or crazy in terms of partying.

Campus Housing: I really like all of the housing options, as in terms of the actual rooms, they are relatively similar. I live in the East Tower right now and I love it. There are so many washers and dryers and it is free to use them at Ithaca! Also, as freshman will come to realize, having a dining hall in your building is near priceless, especially with Ithaca's cold weather! Living is Emerson is nice but it is so far away from dining halls and classrooms that I don't think its worth it. That is, Emerson is far in terms of Ithaca's size. It is not that far in reality.

Facilities: I am in the business school, and let me tell you, it was the best decision of my life. I'm not sure about the other academic programs, but the business school is unbelievably involved. They require many things outside of your classwork, which may sound overwhelming, but trust me it is so helpful! Your first semester freshman year they immediately start with helpful seminars and resume and workshop requirements to make sure you get everything out of the program that you possibly can.

Diversity: Ithaca is a very liberal college. It has students of many races and cultures and everyone fits in.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Ithaca is full of colorful, one-of-a-kind restaurants that are great for taking guests and parents to. The food is almost always high quality and delicious. We have a variety of kinds of places as well, from burger joints to vegan restaurants and many of the restaurants use locally grown food. In the more industrialized areas, farther from campus, there are more commercial places, like Chipolte, Dunkin Donuts, and Chiles. Wegmans is the main grocery store, which is known to have high quality food, and also has its own market to buy meals.

Off-Campus Housing: Off campus housing is more affordable than on campus housing. However, you must have your entire plan ready in the fall of the year before, which for most situations, is very difficult or unrealistic. Unless you get a house right off campus, you will most likely need a car to live off campus. The houses are relatively nice, but the college houses are usually shut down early by cops on the weekends. Each house is different for what it covers and needs to be analyzed on its own for affordability in comparison to on-campus housing. Very few juniors are allowed off campus each year, and in order to live on campus as a senior, you need to apply.

Transportation: The only real efficient way to get around town is having your own car. The public transportation is the TCAT bus, which comes at every hour and is good for short trips. It costs $1.50 per trip, or $1 a trip if you go online and get a card. However, I believe it is free for Cornell students. It also takes an hour to get to the mall and Wegmans, which is inefficient. There is no on campus transportation, although the main campus is small enough so it isn't necessarily needed. Circle Apartments are a bit farther up the campus, so transportation to and from them would be nice to have.

Diversity: I personally have met and befriended many different people from all over the world, from Hong Kong to Bangledesh to India. However, there is still a very Christian white majority at Ithaca College. Ithaca is known as being a very white school and there are many groups on campus that work to raise the awareness of minority groups.

Academics: I love the Documentary Studies Program at IC's Park School of Communications. The degree allows me to take a variety of Park classes, along with many outside of major classes. Currently, I'm taking a class in television, journalism, theater, and history. I get a pretty wide variety in my education, and there will only be more to come for me in the future. Also, the Park school and IC in general supply Career Services for lifetime references and possibilities for jobs and internships.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: The night life is mostly for students who are 21 or older. Yes, students can go to night clubs such as The Haunt, but to party under the age of 21, you are better staying on campus to find a party or going on the side streets off of Ithaca. Students can always go to Cornell University as well. CU sponsors many concerts, such as Avicii. There is Greek life at CUand all IC students are welcome to join. As for regular night life, if you are going into the commons and under the age of 21, unless you have alcohol to yourself, you are going to be sober.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Despite the fact that Ithaca College is a Division Three school, the athletic support across campus is huge. Varsity sports such as soccer, crew, football, and lacrosse are a big deal. The IC Football Team plays our biggest rival, which is SUNY Cortland. The game is known as Cortaca and the majority of the six thousand students on campus go to this game in support of the team. The school spirit and pride that is on this campus is spread throughout our sports and abilities outside of our athletic abilities.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: Transportation at Ithaca College is fairly simple. As a freshman, they bump the prices for students to have parking passes; which I personally think is ridiculous. The school's reasoning is based on that they want first year students to learn the TCAT, which is the Ithaca bus system. It is simple and transports students all over town. The schedules are easy and you can download an app to see the schedules from any area you are in, if you have a smart phone. On top of this, instead of having to pay one dollar in change each time you go on the bus, you can apply bus passes onto your student ID.

When students are asked to evaluate their overall experience at IC, they often look at the lessons they learned both inside and outside of the classroom. Students who go beyond the social aspect of college and get involved end up both gaining the most experience and having the most fun. Many students love IC because of its size. Sometimes, it’s hard to walk anywhere on campus without bumping into someone you know. With such dreadfully cold winters, the academic programs and well-organized student groups are the main reasons students come back every year. Also, the great size allows students to connect with other students in their majors and their professors/advisers, as well.

Like many things in life, students’ experiences with IC are simply what they make of them. If you sit in your dorm room for four years, you will be miserable. If you experience the life Ithaca has to offer and go outside of your comfort zone, you most likely won’t regret your decision to attend IC. The school’s high retention rate proves this. IC offers a great mix of academics and everything else college life should offer—friends, fun, professional opportunities, active campus life, and a time to learn and grow.
