4 College Sophomore

Weather: The weather here is great, especially if you come from the North East. It's still shorts weather in October!

Health & Safety: The only problem is that it's practically off campus and a troop to get to if you don't have a car

Off-Campus Housing: Off campus apartments are abundant and extremely nice. The prices are great too!

3 College Junior

Computers: Internet tends to be slow, printing is free, lots of labs.

Off-Campus Dining: Ithaca is really diverse and there's lots of options for off-campus dining. GrubHub online is the best place to order and get food delivered right to you on campus. There's a great mixture of cheap take out places, and nice sit down restaurants.

Scholarships: It's fairly easy to apply, and being a private school means there is more money for them to hand out in scholarships.

Athletics: Being a D3 school, it's sometimes hard to get into the sports scene. But as for the few events I've attended, it has been really fun. Fan bases seem to be very localised to specific teams, and club sports get as much attention, if not more, as varsity events. The athletic arenas are amazing, especially the new athletic and events center built recently with the huge indoor track and olympic sized pool and diving well. Ithaca is part of Cortaca each year, the biggest little game of the year, for football against SUNY Cortland and school spirit soars during this time.

Weather: The weather's not really as bad as its made out to be. It's pretty typical New York weather... okay.

Diversity: My school prides itself on being diverse.

Campus Dining: For what we pay for our meal plans the food is sub-par. Not enough healthy choices and when there are, they are not offered in a healthy way (the salad bar makes everyone sick, because it's self serve and open, yuck!) Major improvements needed here.

Local Atmosphere: Finger Lakes region is a beautiful place! Wish I had more time during the school year to take advantage of where I am.

Facilities: I get along with everyone for the most part...though seriously, I'm rarely out of my major building so the bulk of my friends have the same major as me.

Campus Strictness: Just wish they'd catch the guys smoking pot upstairs!

Weather: The weather here is really diverse. One minute the sun is out the next there is a raging blizzard going on! Often it's windy, and cloudy, and it does get really cold. The last 2 years we didn't have a lot of snow, but it snowed like all the time. When it's warmer it rains a lot. Summer and Fall are actually the best times to be here. Great recreational area if you have time for that stuff.

Overall Experience: Overall, my experience has been good, but it's also been very challenging. My major is tough and time consuming and at times stressful. This college has a reputation for being a bit of a party school. Not if you're going to survive in my major!

Scholarships: Financial aid has been great this year. They have been incredibly helpful, and understanding. They have helped me more than I thought possible and have been patient with my circumstances. Love them!

Transportation: I usually have a parent come get me because I don't live far away, or friends who live close to me at home share rides.

Computers: I hate not being able to get into the labs at mid-term and finals. Cool that we have MACs!

Campus Housing: I live in a single in the Terraces which I enjoy. I wouldn't say that the value for the money is great though. My single is T.I.N.Y. but I do have my own bathroom which is awesome. Overall, the housing is pretty expensive.

Greek Life: I love my fraternity. They are a great bunch of people and we do a lot for our community. They are like my family away from home!

When students are asked to evaluate their overall experience at IC, they often look at the lessons they learned both inside and outside of the classroom. Students who go beyond the social aspect of college and get involved end up both gaining the most experience and having the most fun. Many students love IC because of its size. Sometimes, it’s hard to walk anywhere on campus without bumping into someone you know. With such dreadfully cold winters, the academic programs and well-organized student groups are the main reasons students come back every year. Also, the great size allows students to connect with other students in their majors and their professors/advisers, as well.

Like many things in life, students’ experiences with IC are simply what they make of them. If you sit in your dorm room for four years, you will be miserable. If you experience the life Ithaca has to offer and go outside of your comfort zone, you most likely won’t regret your decision to attend IC. The school’s high retention rate proves this. IC offers a great mix of academics and everything else college life should offer—friends, fun, professional opportunities, active campus life, and a time to learn and grow.
