4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I was able to find a place about 30 minutes away from the college. The land lords and home owners who rent rooms to family and students for a very reasonable price. I found the ad on craigslist and was able to check out the house at my convenience.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: there's lots of drugs if you want them

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: officers and rules are lenient

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Athletics at this school are not extremely popular.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Being a music education major comes with an extremely heavy workload. There are several great opportunities for this major.

4 College Freshman

Computers: There are several computer labs. Printing is free. Several services are available to help with computer issues.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: I did not get much financial aid and this school is very expensive.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is expensive. There are many things to do on campus in terms of college-run activities.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There are many options for off-campus housing. It's much cheaper than living on campus.

2 College Freshman

Diversity: There is very little ethnic/racial diversity. Most people are liberal. The school is very LBGTQ friendly.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: Car or bus are the best options of transportation. Ithaca also has an airport.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: Not a lot of parties. Bar and club scene only for people over 21.

5 College Freshman

Majors: The Music Education program at Ithaca College is one of the best in the country.

College Freshman

Majors: I have not had an internship.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: The school is very diverse in the sense of sexuality, religious and political beliefs. However, there is not much ethnic diversity on campus.

4 College Freshman

Majors: I am an Exploratory major, meaning that at the moment I am undecided. However, Ithaca has a great Exploratory program, in which they allow you to explore a variety of classes in order to help you decide what your major will be.In addition to this, the school has a lot of great majors and schools to choose from. Also you get to choose classes first which is awesome.

4 College Freshman

Majors: The Exploratory program is pretty easy to get into. Its great because the school helps you find what field you would like to go into.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The schools here are all very great and they offer a wide variety of classes. The workload can be a lot and teachers are sometimes hit or miss. However, this school is great for its academics.

2 College Freshman

Weather: The weather is VERY cold up here, and it snows quite a lot. Unfortunately this means walking on campus during the Winter (which is most of the year) absolutely awful. However, its beautiful and the perfect temperature in the Spring and Fall.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I lived in the Upper Quads, which was great because everything is just a short walk away. However, when living in most of the other buildings you have to walk pretty far and or climb a lot of stairs...

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: It's a nightmare trying to get all the financial aid paper work in, and the school is very expensive so most people definitely need the help. Also Ithaca does give merit based scholarships but most I have heard of have to be offered to you rather then you applying for them.

2 College Freshman

Transportation: The town is about two miles away meaning there is really no way to leave campus except for the TCAT, which is a bus system that costs a $1.50. The bus is almost always late and you have to take an unbelievable amount of transfers to get anywhere. Which means that if you want to get to the target which is only 12 minutes away, it could take you around 45 minutes to an hour to get there. Otherwise the taxi's are ok, just taking them can get a bit expensive. Ideally the best option is to bring a car to campus but that also can get a little expensive.

2 College Freshman

Weather: New York is notorious for its harsh winters, especially here at Ithaca. However, those willing to wait it out will be welcomed by temperatures in the 80s throughout the spring and summer with the sun shining consistently and a beautiful view of the town.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: IC is known as a "stoner school" and many students here openly smoke as well as drink. Campus safety is used to this and has a pretty limited enforcement for this, and many people can get away with openly smoking and drinking around campus as long as they are not causing any harm.

When students are asked to evaluate their overall experience at IC, they often look at the lessons they learned both inside and outside of the classroom. Students who go beyond the social aspect of college and get involved end up both gaining the most experience and having the most fun. Many students love IC because of its size. Sometimes, it’s hard to walk anywhere on campus without bumping into someone you know. With such dreadfully cold winters, the academic programs and well-organized student groups are the main reasons students come back every year. Also, the great size allows students to connect with other students in their majors and their professors/advisers, as well.

Like many things in life, students’ experiences with IC are simply what they make of them. If you sit in your dorm room for four years, you will be miserable. If you experience the life Ithaca has to offer and go outside of your comfort zone, you most likely won’t regret your decision to attend IC. The school’s high retention rate proves this. IC offers a great mix of academics and everything else college life should offer—friends, fun, professional opportunities, active campus life, and a time to learn and grow.
